Each July Fourth, thousands of people, most often children and teens, are injured while using consumer fireworks. ONE ENGINE DISPATCHED TO ASSIST 64

 

July 2- Shortly after 8:00 this evening LCFC was dispatched to assist Springfield FD on a camper fire at Pine Lane Campground on West Lake Road. Engine 572 responded shortly after dispatch. While responding dispatch advised fire was a possible refrigerator and caller requested fire dept to cancel. Springfield Engine 643 continued in to investigate and all others staged.  E643 arrived on scene and reported nothing showing. After investigating Springfield Chief 640 placed all units in service.

MULE RESPONDS TO SPRINGFIELD

 

June 30- Around 9:30 this evening LCFC was requested for the Mule to assist on a fall victim near the creek off of Under Ridge Road in Springfield Township. Lifestar was also requested to the scene. Rescue 579 and the Mule responded. While en route LCFC was cancelled by command. Patient was going to be carried out by Springfield personnel. Lifestar was also cancelled.


PUMP DETAIL AT MIDDLE ROAD HOME

 

June 30- LCFC was dispatched this evening for a salvage detail at a Middle Road Home. Homeowner reported water in the basement and requested the fire department for a pump out. U566 responded with a portable pump and crew. Crew found a few feet of water in the homes basement and water outside around the home. Using the portable pump crews were able to remove most of the water in the basement.


WATER RESCUE TEAM GOES TO BELLE VALLEY

 

June 30- LCFC's Water Rescue Team was requested by Kuhl Hose chief 680 to assist in Belle Valley on evacuations due to flooding conditions in their area this morning. Rescue 579 with Boat 578, Utility 566 and Squad 577 responded to Belle Valley. Lake Shore personnel and Kuhl Hose's water rescue boat responded as well. Units arrived in Belle Valley and were ordered to launch the boat on Gore Road and retrieve occupants and pets from homes surrounded by high swift water. The LCFC and Kuhl Hose water rescue boats made their way to the homes and crews assisted the occupants and their pets onboard. Then made their way back to dry land. Squad 577 transported victims to Mount Saint Caramel School for shelter. After mission was complete LCFC stood by at Kuhl Hose until not needed any further.

563 GOES TO CROTTY MEMORIAL BIKE RUN

 

June 27- This morning Engine 563 traveled to Lawrence Park for the 2nd Annual Michael Crotty Memorial Bike Run and Show. Engine 563 along with other apparatus lined Main Street in Lawrence Park for the start of the run. Ladder trucks with an American flag ended the line up as bikes made their way from Lawrence Park to stops in North East, Wattsburg, Edinboro, and McKean. Michael Crotty was killed in the line of duty in 2008 operating at an emergency scene.

 


MVA ROUTE 5 AND MAPLE AVE

 

June 23- This evening LCFC was dispatched for a MVA at Route 5 and Maple Avenue.  U566 responded to the scene, Girard Squad 557 assisted due to Sq577 out of prior call.  Crew arrived on scene and found 2 vehicles with minor damage, no entrapment. 1 patient was packaged and transported to the hospital. U566 remained on scene until vehicle was cleared.

 


ANNUAL CARNIVAL A SUCCESS

 

June 21- Thank you to all who came out and supported the Lake City Fire Company at our annual carnival! Also thank you to all the volunteers who dedicated time to our event, vendors, parade participants and entertainment groups.

USCG REQUESTS LCFC WATER RESCUE TEAM

 

June 16- This afternoon the LCFC Water Rescue Team was dispatched to assist United States Coast Guard Ashtabula on a water rescue 2 nautical miles east of Conneaut Ohio. Three persons in the water from a capsized boat was reported. Water Rescue 579 and Rescue Boat 578 responded to Elk Creek for launch. Utility 566 and Squad 577 also responded. Units arrived at the Elk Creek Access boat launch. As the Rescue Boat 578 was backed into the water LCFC was placed in service by USCG. A boat in the area retrieved persons and transported them to shore, uninjured. USCG is investigating the incident.


CARNIVAL PREP AND SET UP BEGIN

 

June 8- With under 10 days until the 85th Annual Carnival tonight crew began the task of preparation and set up.  Tonight was a night of organizing and setting up the perimeter fencing. Erie County Adult Probation personnel, under the supervision of Tom Burkett assist each year in this duty and we thank them for their help! Rides will begin arriving this weekend and the big tent goes up on Monday.  Hope to see you at the Carnival!

 


SMOKE INVESTIGATION SENDS 566 AND 563 OUT

 

June 8- LCFC was dispatched this evening for an investigation of smoke coming from a sewer manhole on Renee Drive. Engine 563 and Utility 566 responded to the scene. Crews investigated and found nothing visible from the manhole or in the area. After insuring there was no emergency, crews cleared the scene.


FIRE ALARM SENDS ENGINE TO EDGE PARK DR.

June 3- This evening LCFC was dispatched for an automatic fire alarm at an Edge Park Drive residence. Shortly after dispatch, cause was found to be burnt food and LCFC was requested to respond for ventilation. Engine 563 responded. Crew used natural ventilation, by opening doors and windows, to clear the home. E563 was in service a short time later.


TWO ENGINES GO TO FAIRVIEW ON FIRE

June 3- LCFC was dispatched for two engines to assist Fairview on a structure fire at a West Ridge Road residence. Girard, Lake Shore and West Ridge FD were also dispatched to assist. Engine 563 and 572 responded. First arriving units found smoke showing from the structure. While arriving on scene Lake City, Girard and West Ridge units were placed in service by command. A oven fire was found and handled by Fairview and Lake Shore. Lake City units returned to quarters.

LCFC DISPATCHED TO ASSIST 64 ON WATER RESCUE

May 31- This evening LCFC was dispatched to assist Springfield FD with the Water Rescue Team for a reported boat capsized with persons in the water on Lake Erie. U566 and the Jet Skis responded to Elk Creek access to launch and R579 with Rescue Boat 578 prepared to respond. While responding all Lake City units were placed in service. All persons made it to the beach and were accounted for uninjured.

 


CREWS RESPOND TO ELECTRICAL FIRE

May 31- LCFC was dispatched around 2:00 this afternoon for an electrical fire at a Smith Street residence. Engine 563 and Engine 572 responded. While responding caller requested to cancel the fire department. Chief 560 placed Engine 572 in service and Engine 563 continued in to investigate.  Crews found a washing machine motor that burnt up with no fire. Engine 563 returned a short time later.


WATER RESCUE TEAM HEADS TO EDINBORO

May 30- The LCFC Water Rescue Team was requested to stand by for this years Edinboro Triathlon. Rescue 579, Rescue Boat 578, Squad 577, U566 and the Jet Skis all stood by at Edinboro Lake for the .75 mile swim. Before the event started the Jet Skis responded to a possible water rescue near the Edinboro Dam. Crews found a capsized canoe with debris in the water. After further investigating no patients were found and the owner was located. Rescue Boat 578 and the Skis patrolled the lake during the race in the event they were needed to assist any of the swimmers. R578 transported one swimmer to shore uninjured. Thank you Edinboro FD for the invite to participate in this years Triathlon stand by.


HOUSE FIRE SENDS CREWS TO LAKE STREET

May 29- LCFC was dispatched this evening for a structure fire at a Lake Street residence. Girard and Lake Shore FD were dispatched to assist. Chief 560 arrived on scene and found fire showing from structure. Engine 572 was first in on attack. Engine 563 and mutual aid companies arrived and crews went to work on the fire. Springfield FD was dispatched for one engine to assist. Fire was knocked down from the exterior, then crews entered and worked from interior and on the roof. Fire was under control about 45 minutes after dispatch. Crews remained on scene to conduct salvage and overhaul.  


LCFC ATTENDS MEMORIAL DAY PARADES

May 25- Engine 572 and Utility 566 with the mule attended the Fairview and Girard Memorial Day parades. Hundred of residents lined the parade routes as the units made way to the cemeteries at the end where  memorial services were held. Each year LCFC takes part in remembering all who served, including local Fire Department Members.

 

 

 


ENGINE 563 GOES TO RUBBISH FIRE

May 25- LCFC was dispatched around 3:30 this morning for a rubbish fire behind Lake City Manufactured Homes. Chief 560 reported the fire as he was returning from an EMS Call. Engine 563 responded to the scene. Crews arrived and found a scrap pile containing wood and saw dust on fire. After knocking the fire down with water, foam was applied to ensure extinguishment. Crews were on scene about a half hour. No damage was done to nearby structures.

  


SQUAD 577 AND UTILITY 566 GO TO SPRINGFIELD ON MVA

May 23- LCFC was dispatched to assist Springfield FD on a motor vehicle accident in the 14000 block of West Lake Road around 7:00am.  Squad 577 and Utility 566 responded. One vehicle in a ditch with heavy damage and entrapment was reported by first arriving units.  Squad 577's crew assisted with extrication. One class 1 and one class 2 patient were found. Lifestar was requested to the scene.  Crews removed the roof of the vehicle to extricate the patients. Assistant Chief 561 handled Lifestar Landing Zone. Class 1 patient was flown by Lifestar to Hamot. Class 2 patient was transported by Lake City Squad 577. While transporting, Squad 577 diverted to Station 57 to meet Stat Medevac and fly their patient. U566 remained on scene for traffic control until vehicle was removed. PSP is investigating the accident.


LCFC PRACTICES WITH LIVE BURNS

 

May 18- For this weeks drill LCFC ventured out to Franklin Township and visited the training grounds. Crews set up hose lines and practiced hose advancement and interior fire attack on live burns in the burn tower. Crews use drills like this to break in probies and keep their skills sharp. Thank you to Walt Sumner and Mike Hill for assistance with the drill!

 

 


FIRE SAFETY HOUSE VISITS ELK VALLEY

 

May 15- Members from LCFC and Girard FD taught fire prevention using the Erie County Firefighters Association Fire Safety House this week to students at Elk Valley Elementary School. The Fire Safety House helps teach the proper way to escape a smoke filled home. By use of smoke detectors and a smoke machine, a simulated environment gives students a chance to see what it is like inside a smoke filled home and ensure they know how to stay low and find the safest exit.


LOCAL GIRL SCOUTS VISIT STATION

 

May 14- This evening a local Girl Scout troop visited station 56 for a tour of the station and equipment.  Assistant Chief Jeff Jobczynski showed the group engine 563 and explained the equipment on board and its purpose.  After the visit the group received their Fire Department visit badge. Lake City Police also had one of their vehicles at the station for the group to see.

 

 


CAR INTO TREE SENDS CREWS TO NURSERY RD

May 10- Shortly after 3:00 this afternoon LCFC was dispatched for a Vehicle accident on Nursery Road near Smith Street. Girard FD and West County Paramedics were also dispatched to assist. LCFC Engine 563 and Utility 566 responded. Units arrived on scene and found 1 vehicle into a tree with minor damage and single occupant out of the vehicle.  Occupant refused treatment. Units cleared scene around 3:30.


CREWS RESPOND TO TRAIN TRESTLE

May 9- LCFC was dispatched this evening for a rescue at the Norfolk Southern train trestle over Elk Creek. A person with their foot trapped in the tracks was reported by dispatch. U566 with the mule, Squad 577, and Engine 563 responded. Train traffic was stopped. Crews arrived at the staging area and the mule responded back to the trestle.  After investigation no persons were found on or near the trestle.  Crews were in service a short time later.

 


LCFC RESPONDS TO BRUSH FIRE

May 4- LCFC was dispatched for a reported brush fire along the railroad tracks on Elk Park Road around 4:00 this afternoon. Engine 572 and Utility 566 responded. Crews arrived on scene and found a small brush fire along the tracks. Train traffic was stopped while fire suppression was conducted. Crews had the fire under control quickly.  Units were on scene about 1 hour.

 

 


FIRE ALARM SENDS LCFC TO CHERRY ST.

 

May 2- LCFC was dispatched shortly before 7:00 this evening for an automatic fire alarm at a Cherry Street residence. Engine 563 responded. Crews arrived on scene and found nothing visible from the home. After investigation burnt food had set off the alarm. Crews ventilated the structure and were in service at 7:15.


CREWS RESPOND TO STRUCTURAL COLLAPSE

 

May 2- LCFC was dispatched to assist Girard on a structural collapse with entrapment at a residence on Northcreek Road. Units arrived on scene and found 2 class 3 patients. A two car garage under construction collapsed with individual working on it . LCFC Squad 577 and Girard Squad 557 both transported 1 patient to the hospital ALS. Crews cleared a short time later.
