MEMBERS COMPLETE FIRE BEHAVIOR CLASS

 

Dec 21- This evening LCFC members completed a Fire Behavior course by instructor Joe Petrone. The course taught a basic understanding of the chemical and physical nature of fire. The course reviewed sources of heat energy, composition and characteristics of fuels, and environmental conditions necessary to sustain the combustion process. Thank you Joe for a great class!

 

 

 


MVA SENDS CREWS TO MAPLE AVE

 

Dec 20- LCFC was dispatched for an MVA on Maple Ave near Hall Ave around 9:00pm. Girard was dispatched to assist with a rescue and squad and Springfield on standby. Dispatch advised caller reported 1 vehicle rollover in a ditch with entrapment. Engine 563, Squad 577, Utility 566,  and Rescue 579 responded. First arriving units found an SUV off the roadway on its side with 2 occupants self extricated uninjured. Both occupants refused treatment. Girard and Springfield were placed in service. Crews remained on scene for traffic control and for tow truck. All units were in service around 11:00pm.

 

 


LCFC  RESPONDS TO INVESTIGATION

 

Dec 19- LCFC was dispatched for an investigation at a Peaceful Acres Mobile Home Park residence shortly after 12:00am. Caller reported feeling a explosion like vibration throughout the home. Engine 572, Squad 577 and U566 responded. Crews investigated and found the problem to be plumbing related. Crews cleared shortly after.

 


CREWS ASSIST ON STRUCTURE FIRE

 

Dec 05- LCFC was dispatched to assist Fairview FD on a structure fire at a Middle Road residence early this morning. Engine 572, Squad 577 and Utility 566 responded. A two story residential structure with heavy fire showing was reported by command. E572 arrived on scene and was diverted to water supply at the Gravel Pits. Sq577 and U566 arrived on scene and staged at a nearby parking lot. U566's crew assisted on scene with fire suppression and overhaul. Crews were on scene about 3 hours. The home is believed to be a total loss. High winds quickly spread the flames through the home and made firefighting efforts difficult.  Girard, Lake Shore, West Lake, West Ridge, Franklin Township, Platea and West County Paramedics also assisted on the incident.

MULE ASSISTS TO ALBION

 

Dec 05- LCFC was dispatched this afternoon for the Mule to assist Albion Fire Department with a fall victim from a tree stand at the State Game Lands off of Griffey Road in Albion. Rescue 579 with the Mule and Utility 566 responded. Springfield and West County Paramedics were dispatched to assist also. LCFC units arrived on scene and mule was unloaded. Mule and rescue trailer responded to the incident scene. Crews found a patient that had fallen approximately 15 feet from tree stand. Crews packaged and carried the patient to the Mule. The mule then transported the patient to Albion's Squad who then responded to landing zone for helicopter transport to the hospital.

 

During the operation the Mule blew out a rear tire, but still executed the mission. Thank you to Cycle City for their quick response and having a spare tire at the station when crews returned!

LCFC GOES TO COURT HOUSE

 

Nov 17- LCFC Engine 572 and members of the fire company traveled to the Erie County Court House this afternoon to show unity for lack of support from county council to help fund the Franklin Township training facility. Many other fire departments were present at the court house. LCFC along with the other Erie County fire companies use the facility for many classes and drills. The facility is the only one in the area that is a certified site for Firefighter I and other state certifications. Read more here.


GROUND LADDER REFRESHER COURSE

 

Nov 15- LCFC members completed a Ground Ladders Refresher Course this evening, The 3 hour course was held at the Franklin Center Training Grounds. Members refreshed their knowledge of ladder components, maintenance, and proper ladder placement and use.

563 GOES TO GIRARD ON SHED FIRE

 

Nov 07- LCFC was dispatched for 1 engine to assist Girard FD with a shed fire on Aurora Drive just before 4:00 this afternoon. Station 56 answered shortly after dispatched and Engine 563 responded with 5. First arriving units found fire showing from a shed. E563 arrived on scene and the LCFC crew went to the structure. Crews assisted in fire suppression and overhaul. Fire was extinguished and all units cleared the scene around 5:00pm.

 

 


CREWS RESPOND TO CHIMNEY FIRE

 

Nov 05- LCFC was dispatched for a Structure Fire at a North Creek Road residence around 9:40 this evening. Girard, Springfield for an engine, Platea for a tanker, Lake Shore for an engine and Cranesville for the FAST team were dispatched to assist. LCFC answered up shortly after dispatch. Dispatch advised a Chimney fire was reported by caller. Engine 563, 572, Squad 577 and Utility 566 responded. Crews arrived on scene and found a 2 story wood frame residential structure with nothing showing. LCFC crew enter structure and found negative extension from chimney into structure. Platea was placed in service. All other units continued in priority 2. Fire was placed under control and all units were placed in service with exception of LCFC units and Girard Engine 553. Crews ensured extinguishment and no extension. After clearing creosote build up in the fire box and around the damper, all remaining units were in service around 11:40pm.

FALL VICTIM SENDS CREW S TO  ELK CREEK

 

Oct 31- LCFC was dispatched shortly after 1:00pm for a fall victim near Elk Creek in the area of Old Lake Road. Squad 577 and Utility 566 with the Mule responded. Units arrived at a parking lot near the mouth of Elk Creek and manpower walked to the creek from there. Crews arrived and found 1 patient with a leg injury near the creek from a fall. Patient was packaged and loaded into a stokes. Crews carried out patient to Squad 577. Squad 577 transported patient to hospital.


ASSIST TO GIRARD WITH MULE/MANPOWER

 

Oct 31- LCFC was dispatched to assist Girard FD with the Mule for a fall victim near Elk Creek in Girard Boro park. Utility 566 and the mule responded. Crews arrived at Girard Boro Park and LCFC was ordered for manpower only to assist at the scene. LCFC's manpower made their way  to the patient. Crews packaged patient and placed in stokes. Patient was carried out to Squad 557 transported patient to the hospital.

 

 

 


ASSIST TO GIRARD ON STRUCTURE FIRE

 

Oct 30- LCFC was dispatched to assist Girard FD on a structure fire at the Gertrude Barber Center shortly before 10:00 this morning. Fairview and Cranesville were also dispatched to assist. Station 56 answered up right after dispatch and Engine 563 responded. While en route all units were requested to stand by with exception of Girard Engine 553. Personnel on scene reported a fire in the alarm system that was extinguished and only needed ventilation. Once 553 arrived on scene all other units were placed in service.


LCFC DISPATCHED FOR MIDDLE ROAD MVA

 

Oct 24- LCFC was dispatched this evening for a MVA in the 9500 block of Middle Road. Squad 577 responded shortly after dispatch and was advised one vehicle on it's roof with no one around was reported. Assistant Chief 561 requested all other units stand by the station. Squad 577 arrived on scene and found one vehicle approximately 30 feet off the roadway on it's roof with no one in or around the vehicle. All other units were placed in service. Squad 577 returned in service. Lake City PD remained on scene for tow truck and investigation.


LCFC DISPATCH SWITCHES TO ERIE COUNTY

 

Oct 20- Today LCFC switches from Emergycare to the new Erie County Public Safety system for their dispatching. LCFC will join the dozen of Fire and Police departments that are already dispatched by the new 911 center. Though some issues had risen early in the new 911 system, LCFC is hoping for an easy going transformation. Thank you Emergycare for your many years of dispatching services!

LCFC ASSISTS GIRARD ON MVA

 

Oct 14- LCFC was dispatched this afternoon for Squad 577 to assist Girard FD with an MVA on Route 20 in front of Pizza Hut. Two vehicles with injuries were reported by first arriving units. Squad 577 arrived on scene and was assigned to one patient. 577 Transported the patient to the hospital. Fairview, Platea and West County Paramedics also assisted.

 

 

 

 


FIRE PREVENTION WEEK WRAPS UP

 

Oct 9- LCFC spent this week at the Elk Valley Elementary School teaching fire prevention to children in prekindergarten through 4th grade. Over 740 children participated. Children were taught things like stop, drop and roll and why to call 911. Girard FD and LCFC join for this week of education for Elk Valley students each year.

 

 

 

 


HIGH WINDS LEAD TO 3 CALLS FOR LCFC

 

Oct 7- LCFC was dispatched for three calls this morning due to the high winds in the area. The first call came in around 6:30am for wires down in the area of Lake Street and Sampson Ave. Around 7:30am crews were dispatched for a tree across the roadway on Route 5 near North Creek Road and shortly before 10am crews responded to the same area as the previous incident for another tree down.

CREWS ASSIST AT SPRINGFIELD FIRE

 

Sept 30- LCFC was dispatched to assist Springfield VFD with a structure fire on West Lake Road around 4:30 this afternoon. Dispatch advised caller reported flames coming from a mobile homes windows. Platea Tanker 595, Girard for an engine and Cranesville's Fast Team were dispatched to assist. Lake City E572 responded and was the first arriving unit, reporting a single family dwelling with smoke showing. LCFC U566 and Sq577 responded as well. Crews pulled a line off of E572 and entered the structure. No fire was found in side the home. Chief 640 placed all units except Lake City and Springfield in service.  After investigating,  a fire under the mobile home caused by an ignited broken propane line had caused the home to fill with smoke. Propane supply was turned off and fire extinguished prior to crews arrival. No damage to interior of home was found. Crews returned a short time later.


MVA SENDS CREWS TO WEST LAKE ROAD

 

Sept 26- LCFC and West County Paramedics were dispatched for a 1 vehicle accident on West Lake Road near North Creek Road around 11:00pm. Squad 577, U566 and Medic 1 responded. Units arrived on scene and found 1 SUV over a guard rail with no entrapment. 1 patient was out of the vehicle. Patient refused transport to the hospital. Crews remained on scene for traffic control until vehicle was removed by tow truck.

 

 

 


MULE DISPATCHED TO ASSIST WEST RIDGE FD

 

Sept 13- LCFC was dispatched to assist West Ridge FD with the mule on a fall victim from a bike in the Asbury Park woods. Dispatch advised injured patient was on a trail in the woods. Utility 566 and the mule responded shortly after dispatch. While en route LCFC was cancelled per West Ridge command. Patient was being carried out by their crew.

 

 

 


LCFC AND DIVE TEAM CONDUCT DRILL

 

Sept 12- LCFC Water Rescue Team and the Millcreek Dive Team conducted drills today in Elk Creek and in Lake Erie. Both groups got a chance to become aware of each others equipment and capabilities. Rescue Boat 578 and the Jet Skis with use of the Rapid Deployment Craft transported the dive team to various areas in the creek and off the mouth of Elk Creek to conduct drills. LCFC looks forward to working with the Millcreek Dive Team on future emergency responses

 

 

 


LCFC PARTICIPATES IN VAN AIR SAFETY DAY

 

Sept 11- LCFC participated in the annual Van Air Systems Safety Day at their plant on Mechanic Street in Lake City. Equipment was on display, members helped teach employees with fire extinguisher training and EMS provided blood pressure screenings. LCFC attends the safety day each year as just one of the many ways to support the community.

 

 

 


566 RESPONDS TO CO ALARM ON HALL AVE

 

Sept 9- LCFC was dispatched this morning for a CO alarm without illness at a Hall Avenue residence.  Engine 563 and Squad 577 responded to the residence. Crews arrived and began monitoring as they entered the home. After further investigating crews found the oven to be the problem. Elevated levels were found near the appliance. Homeowner was notified to have the appliance serviced. Crews cleared a shot time later.


LCFC RESPONDS TO FIRE ALARM

 

Sept 6- LCFC was dispatched around 11:15 this evening for an fire alarm at Allegheny Woodworks on Railroad Street.  A neighbor of the location said they could hear an alarm coming from the inside. Engine 563 and 572 responded. Units arrived on scene and found nothing showing. A key holder could not be located so crews made forcible entry to investigate the interior. After further investigation nothing was found. A false alarm was declared by Assistant Chief 561. Units returned in service.


MULE DISPATCHED TO ASSIST EDINBORO FD

 

Sept 5- LCFC was dispatched to assist Edinboro Fire Department with the mule for an unresponsive patient in the woods behind the Edinboro Mobile Home Park around 8:40 this evening. Utility 566 with a crew and the Mule responded shortly after dispatch. While responding, the mule was placed in service. Patient was extricated from the woods and taken to Edinboro's Squad. U566 and the mule returned to quarters.

566 AND 572 RESPOND TO TREE FIRE

 

Aug 29- LCFC was dispatched this evening for a tree fire near Elk Creek off Old Lake Road. U566 and E572 responded. Units arrived on scene and found a large hollow tree on fire burning on the inside with no exposures. Crews grabbed a line off 572 and used foam to extinguish the fire. Crews cleared the scene in about a half hour.


CREWS RESPOND TO CO INVESTIGATION

 

Aug 27- This evening LCFC was dispatched for an investigation of CO in a mobile home on Nursery Road. Engine 563. Squad 577, and a West County Paramedic responded. Crews arrived on scene and used Co and Multi gas meters to check the home. No CO was found in the home, though an odor was present. After further investigation, it is believed a deceased animal under the home caused the smell.  Chief 561 placed all units in service.


CREWS RESPOND TO BRUSH FIRE

 

Aug 26- LCFC was dispatched for a brush fire at Camp Sherwin around 1:30am this morning. Girard FD was dispatched for their brush truck and an engine to assist. Engine 572, Utility 566, Squad 577 and a Brush Truck and engine from Girard responded. Units arrived on scene and found approximately a 30' by 30' area of brush over an embankment on fire. Crews pulled a line off Engine 572 and brought the fire under control. After working the fire with hand tools, foam was applied to ensure extinguishment. Crews cleared the scene around 3:00am.

WATER RESCUE SENDS CREWS TO ELK CREEK

 

Aug 18- Shortly after 8:30 this evening LCFC was dispatched for a Water Rescue in Elk Creek near the train trestle off Maple Avenue. Utility 566 and the mule, Squad 577, Water Rescue 579 , Lake Shore FD and a West County Paramedic responded.  Chief 560 requested Fairview FD to assist with their Rope Rescue Team. Fairview Rescue 539 responded. Staging was set up on North Creek Road south of the tracks. Units arrived at staging. The mule was unloaded and made it's way to the creek. Two patients were found out of the water on an embankment. Patients had been struck by a floating log and injured but were able to make it out of the creek prior to crews arriving on scene. Crews assessed and packaged patients. The mule carried both patients from the scene to the Squad. Squad 577 transported 2 patients to the hospital.  [ View WJET News Clip ]


CREWS PRACTICE RIGGING IN ELK CREEK

 

Aug 17 - Tonight LCFC held it's weekly drill at Elk Creek Access practicing water rescue rigging. Crews set up a highline across the water and practiced advanced line system drills using the Rapid Deployment Craft. This system is used for swift water rescues. Crews also practiced back boarding patients in the creek. This type of training refreshes the water rescue teams skills and keeps them prepared to respond to all types of water rescue incidents.

 

 


LCFC DISPATCHED FOR SEARCH OF KAYAKER

 

Aug 14 - LCFC Water Rescue Team was dispatched this morning for a search of an overdue kayaker. Dispatch advised a kayaker in a 16' kayak was 3 hours overdue back into Elk Creek Access. Lake Shore FD was dispatched to assist with their boat. As Rescue 579 and Boat 578 prepared to respond from station 57, the original caller reported to dispatch kayaker had made it back into Elk Creek. All units were placed in service.

 

 

 


CREWS RESPOND TO CALL FOR HELP ALONG LAKE ERIE

 

Aug 13 - LCFC was dispatched to assist Springfield FD and US Coast Guard Ashtabula with a report of a call for help along the shores of Lake Erie near Virginia's Campground around midnight. Water Rescue 579 with Rescue Boat 578 responded to Elk Creek Access for launch. Utility 566 and Squad 577 responded Raccoon Park for shore support. Lake Shore and Conneaut FD were dispatched to assist with their boats. Crews stood by at various points along the shoreline where the call for help was heard.  Lake Shore went in service prior to responding. LCFC Boat 578, USCG Ashtabula Vessel and Conneaut Ohio air boat searched the waters. After further investigation it was found the call for help was misinterpreted from a religious service that had been held on the shore. Chief 640 placed all units in service. 578 returned to Elk Creek.


UNITS ATTEND DAN RICE DAYS PARADE

 

Aug 8 - LCFC sent Engine 563, Engine 572 and Squad 577 to the annual Dan Rice Days parade held in Girard, PA. Units from Girard, Fairview, Springfield, Platea, Albion  Fire Departments and West County Paramedics also took part in the parade. The parade made it's way from Girard High School south on Route 18 to Route 20 and through the town of Girard.

 

 

 


CREWS RESPOND TO SMOKE INVESTIGATION

 

Aug 5 - LCFC was dispatched around 8:40 this evening for an investigation of smoke in the area of Elk Valley Elementary School. Station 57 answered up shortly after dispatch and Engine 572 responded. Chief 560 and Engine 572 arrived in the area found nothing showing. After investigating the area crews returned in service with nothing found.

 

 


CREW RESPOND TO MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT

 

Aug 3 - LCFC was dispatched shortly before 11pm for a motorcycle accident at the entrance to Lake City Lanes on Lake Street. Squad 577, Utility 566 and West County Medic 3 responded. Crews arrived to find one patient off their motorcycle standing and alert with an arm injury. Patient struck a hole with the cycle and laid the bike on its side.  Crew assessed patient and loaded them into the squad. Squad 577 transported the patient BLS to the hospital.

 

 


LCFC LENDS A HAND TO OUR BROTHERS AT EDINBORO FD

 

Aug 2 - An EMS crew from Lake City Fire Company and an engine crew from Cranesville Fire Department stood by at Station 38 while Edinboro firefighters headed to Jerry Uht Park to take in a SeaWolves baseball game and a well deserved afternoon off.  During the time at Edinboro crews handled two EMS calls.

 


CREWS RESPOND TO BOAT TAKING ON WATER ON LAKE ERIE

 

Aug 2 - LCFC was dispatched around noon to assist US Coast Guard Erie and Ashtabula with a vessel in distress off of Elk Creek Access. USCG reported a 14 foot boat taking on water with 4 occupants . LCFC R579 with Boat 578 and U566 with the skis responded to the access for launch. Rescue Boat 578 and the skis launched and went underway out of the access. Lake Shore Rescue Boat 509 was requested to launch and head towards Elk Creek. Distressed vessel was located and not in immediate danger.  A nearby vessel assisted until rescue units arrived on scene. The Jet Skis and Lake Shore Boat 509 escorted the vessel to Walnut Creek under it's own power and it's bilge pump was able to keep up with the incoming water. Rescue Boat 578 returned to Elk Creek Access. U566 headed to Walnut Creek to pick up the skis and personnel. Units were in service around 2:20. PA Fish and Boat also had a vessel assist with the incident. (Click picture for WJET news clip.)


GREAT WEATHER FOR ANNUAL CRUISE IN

 

Aug 1- LCFC held it's annual Cruise In this evening. The great weather led to over 100 antique, classic and custom vehicles filling the lawn behind Station 56. Door Prizes, a 50/50, and 3 trophies were given away. The LCFC Auxiliary also served up a BBQ Rib dinners. Thank you to all who came out and supported the fire company during this event!

LCFC DISPATCHED FOR WATER RESCUE

 

Aug 1 - LCFC was dispatched around 1:15 this afternoon to assist US Coast Guard Ashtabula and Erie with a vessel in distress and one person in the water .25 nautical miles east of Raccoon Park in Springfield Township. LCFC was placed in service prior to launching. PA Fish and Boat requested LCFC to go to the scene via land and confirm no injuries or boat damage. U566 went to Summer City boat ramp in Springfield and found the boat had engine trouble. The boat was anchored and all persons on board were ok. U566 returned to quarters.

USCG REQUEST LCFC TO ASSIST

 

July 26- Around 3:45 this afternoon LCFC was dispatched to assist US Coast Guard Ashtabula and Erie on Lake Erie. A vessel that was disoriented and lost all power had shot off a flare near Conneaut, Ohio. Personnel arrived at Station 57 and Assistant Chief 561 contacted USCG for their orders.  USCG reported they now had a visual on the vessel and LCFC assistance was no longer needed.


LCFC DISPATCHED FOR UNKNOWN TYPE FIRE

 

July 25- Shortly after 1:00 this afternoon LCFC was dispatched for an unknown type fire in the area of Old Lake Road near the BP Station. Chief 560 responded to the scene. LCFC stations answered up for the call. 560 requested Station 56 and 57 to Stand by, possible controlled burn. After confirming controlled burn, LCFC was placed in service.


CREW ASSISTS AT PLATEA FIRE

 

July 24- As U566 and the mule were returning from the Cranesville call, a West County Medic spotted a smoke coming from a Barn on Route 18 just south of I-90. U566 was just behind the medic and pulled into the scene. The Medic notified West County Dispatch. Platea, Cranesville, Albion, Franklin Township and Edinboro were dispatched to assist. Crews found a small fire in the barn. Platea Chief 580 placed all responding units in service except for Cranesville. LCFC crew assisted Platea and Cranesville in extinguishing the fire then returned in service.


MULE GOES TO CRANESVILLE

 

July 24- Shortly after 5:00 this evening LCFC was dispatched to assist Cranesville FD with the mule. Dispatch reported a person trapped under a tree in the woods off of West Road in Cranesville. Springfield FD was dispatched for their Ag Rescue Team to assist. First arriving units reported a large tree on a patient. Soon after command reported a DOA patient. LCFC arrived on the scene, unloaded the mule and made their way back to the incident. Crews removed the tree to free the victim and the mule transported them out of the woods. Units cleared by 7:30pm.


MULE DISPATCHED TO ASSIST SPRINGFIELD

 

July 17- LCFC was dispatched to assist Springfield FD with the mule around 4:00pm this afternoon. A rescue of a person pinned under an overturned lawn tractor in water on Tubbs Road was reported. U566 with the mule responded. Springfield units arrived on scene and found one patient DOA. Command placed LCFC units in service while responding.

July 15- LCFC would like to thank Richard Dean for his service with the company as a fire police member. Richard left the fire company this week and moved to Florida. LCFC wishes him the best at his new home!


CREW PRACTICES AT ELK CREEK ACCESS

 

July 13- For this weeks drill LCFC crews headed to Elk Creek Access to practice with the Water Rescue equipment. The Jet Ski and Rapid Deployment Craft (RDC) were used to practice patient pick ups in Elk Creek. LCFC recently purchased an accessory for the RDC which allows it to be towed behind the Jet Ski. Crews also practiced with Rescue Boat 578. The LCFC Water Rescue Team has been dispatched four times to water rescues in less than a month, including the flooding at Belle Valley.


 

LCFC DISPATCHED FOR STRUCTURE FIRE

 

July 11- LCFC with mutual aid assistance from Girard, Fairview and Lake Shore FD were dispatched for a Structure Fire around noon at a Middle Road home.  Caller reported their home being struck by lightening and smoke visible in the home. Engine 563 and 572 responded. Units arrived at the address and found nothing showing. LCFC crews enter the structure to investigate.  All mutual aid units were requested to stand by per Chief 560. LCFC crews found a smoldering dryer exhaust pipe to be the cause. Crew ensured there was no extension into the wall or ceiling and ventilated the structure. All mutual aid companies were placed in service. LCFC units were in service a short time later.


FIRE ALARM SENDS CREWS TO RAILROAD ST

 

July 11- LCFC was dispatched for an automatic fire alarm at a Allegheny Woodworks on Railroad Street around 11:00 this morning. Engine 563 and 572 responded. Crews arrived and scene and found nothing visible.  Crews investigated the facility and found sprinkler water flow valve activated but no open heads. After a thorough investigation, Chief 560 declared a false alarm and all units were placed in service.

 

 


LCFC DISPATCHED TO ASSIST USCG

 

July 11- Around 10:30 this morning LCFC was dispatched for the Water Rescue Team to assist the US Coast Guard Station Erie with a boat in distress off of Elk Creek Access. LCFC answered up for the call and USCG had a vessel en route. Boat in distress had lost all power and Lake Erie conditions were worsening. Shortly after answering the call, LCFC was placed in service. Boat was towed to Walnut Creek Access by a good samaritan.


GIRARD FAMILY CHIROPRACTIC DONATES $500 TO LCFC

July 9- The Lake City Fire Company was presented with a generous donation from Dr. Rawa, owner of Girard Family Chiropractic Center. LCFC Chief Marvin Waxham Jr accepted the donation of $500.00 which was raised during a promotion that was held in conjunction with this years Firemen's carnival. For every new patient that mentioned LCFC during the month of June Girard Family Chiropractic would donate $50.00 to LCFC.

WATER RESCUE TEAM ASSISTS USCG

 

July 9- This afternoon LCFC was dispatched for the Water Rescue Team to assist the US Coast Guard Station Erie with a search and rescue on Lake Erie off of Elk Creek Access. A caller, who lived near Elk Creek Access, reported seeing a boat a couple miles out on Lake Erie signaling with a light, as if they were in trouble. Rescue 579 with Rescue Boat 578 and Utility 566 with the Jet Skis responded. US Coast Guard sent two vessels underway to the area and LCFC launched the Jet Skis and Rescue Boat 578 from Elk Creek Access. Two foot waves were found on Lake Erie with no visual of a boat in distress. Crews searched the area and found nothing.  It is believed the sun reflecting off a boats windshield in the waves caused the signaling effect.


ONE ENGINE DISPATCHED TO ASSIST 64

 

July 2- Shortly after 8:00 this evening LCFC was dispatched to assist Springfield FD on a camper fire at Pine Lane Campground on West Lake Road. Engine 572 responded shortly after dispatch. While responding dispatch advised fire was a possible refrigerator and caller requested fire dept to cancel. Springfield Engine 643 continued in to investigate and all others staged.  E643 arrived on scene and reported nothing showing. After investigating Springfield Chief 640 placed all units in service.

MULE RESPONDS TO SPRINGFIELD

 

June 30- Around 9:30 this evening LCFC was requested for the Mule to assist on a fall victim near the creek off of Under Ridge Road in Springfield Township. Lifestar was also requested to the scene. Rescue 579 and the Mule responded. While en route LCFC was cancelled by command. Patient was going to be carried out by Springfield personnel. Lifestar was also cancelled.


PUMP DETAIL AT MIDDLE ROAD HOME

 

June 30- LCFC was dispatched this evening for a salvage detail at a Middle Road Home. Homeowner reported water in the basement and requested the fire department for a pump out. U566 responded with a portable pump and crew. Crew found a few feet of water in the homes basement and water outside around the home. Using the portable pump crews were able to remove most of the water in the basement.


WATER RESCUE TEAM GOES TO BELLE VALLEY

 

June 30- LCFC's Water Rescue Team was requested by Kuhl Hose chief 680 to assist in Belle Valley on evacuations due to flooding conditions in their area this morning. Rescue 579 with Boat 578, Utility 566 and Squad 577 responded to Belle Valley. Lake Shore personnel and Kuhl Hose's water rescue boat responded as well. Units arrived in Belle Valley and were ordered to launch the boat on Gore Road and retrieve occupants and pets from homes surrounded by high swift water. The LCFC and Kuhl Hose water rescue boats made their way to the homes and crews assisted the occupants and their pets onboard. Then made their way back to dry land. Squad 577 transported victims to Mount Caramel School for shelter. After mission was complete LCFC stood by at Kuhl Hose until not needed any further.

563 GOES TO CROTTY MEMORIAL BIKE RUN

 

June 27- This morning Engine 563 traveled to Lawrence Park for the 2nd Annual Michael Crotty Memorial Bike Run and Show. Engine 563 along with other apparatus lined Main Street in Lawrence Park for the start of the run. Ladder trucks with an American flag ended the line up as bikes made their way from Lawrence Park to stops in North East, Wattsburg, Edinboro, and McKean. Michael Crotty was killed in the line of duty in 2008 operating at an emergency scene.

 


MVA ROUTE 5 AND MAPLE AVE

 

June 23- This evening LCFC was dispatched for a MVA at Route 5 and Maple Avenue.  U566 responded to the scene, Girard Squad 557 assisted due to Sq577 out of prior call.  Crew arrived on scene and found 2 vehicles with minor damage, no entrapment. 1 patient was packaged and transported to the hospital. U566 remained on scene until vehicle was cleared.

USCG REQUESTS LCFC WATER RESCUE TEAM

 

June 16- This afternoon the LCFC Water Rescue Team was dispatched to assist United States Coast Guard Ashtabula on a water rescue 2 nautical miles east of Conneaut Ohio. Three persons in the water from a capsized boat was reported. Water Rescue 579 and Rescue Boat 578 responded to Elk Creek for launch. Utility 566 and Squad 577 also responded. Units arrived at the Elk Creek Access boat launch. As the Rescue Boat 578 was backed into the water LCFC was placed in service by USCG. A boat in the area retrieved persons and transported them to shore, uninjured. USCG is investigating the incident.


SMOKE INVESTIGATION SENDS 566 AND 563 OUT

 

June 8- LCFC was dispatched this evening for an investigation of smoke coming from a sewer manhole on Renee Drive. Engine 563 and Utility 566 responded to the scene. Crews investigated and found nothing visible from the manhole or in the area. After insuring there was no emergency, crews cleared the scene.


FIRE ALARM SENDS ENGINE TO EDGE PARK DR.

June 3- This evening LCFC was dispatched for an automatic fire alarm at an Edge Park Drive residence. Shortly after dispatch, cause was found to be burnt food and LCFC was requested to respond for ventilation. Engine 563 responded. Crew used natural ventilation, by opening doors and windows, to clear the home. E563 was in service a short time later.


TWO ENGINES GO TO FAIRVIEW ON FIRE

June 3- LCFC was dispatched for two engines to assist Fairview on a structure fire at a West Ridge Road residence. Girard, Lake Shore and West Ridge FD were also dispatched to assist. Engine 563 and 572 responded. First arriving units found smoke showing from the structure. While arriving on scene Lake City, Girard and West Ridge units were placed in service by command. A oven fire was found and handled by Fairview and Lake Shore. Lake City units returned to quarters.

LCFC DISPATCHED TO ASSIST 64 ON WATER RESCUE

May 31- This evening LCFC was dispatched to assist Springfield FD with the Water Rescue Team for a reported boat capsized with persons in the water on Lake Erie. U566 and the Jet Skis responded to Elk Creek access to launch and R579 with Rescue Boat 578 prepared to respond. While responding all Lake City units were placed in service. All persons made it to the beach and were accounted for uninjured.

 


CREWS RESPOND TO ELECTRICAL FIRE

May 31- LCFC was dispatched around 2:00 this afternoon for an electrical fire at a Smith Street residence. Engine 563 and Engine 572 responded. While responding caller requested to cancel the fire department. Chief 560 placed Engine 572 in service and Engine 563 continued in to investigate.  Crews found a washing machine motor that burnt up with no fire. Engine 563 returned a short time later.


WATER RESCUE TEAM HEADS TO EDINBORO

May 30- The LCFC Water Rescue Team was requested to stand by for this years Edinboro Triathlon. Rescue 579, Rescue Boat 578, Squad 577, U566 and the Jet Skis all stood by at Edinboro Lake for the .75 mile swim. Before the event started the Jet Skis responded to a possible water rescue near the Edinboro Dam. Crews found a capsized canoe with debris in the water. After further investigating no patients were found and the owner was located. Rescue Boat 578 and the Skis patrolled the lake during the race in the event they were needed to assist any of the swimmers. R578 transported one swimmer to shore uninjured. Thank you Edinboro FD for the invite to participate in this years Triathlon stand by.


HOUSE FIRE SENDS CREWS TO LAKE STREET

May 29- LCFC was dispatched this evening for a structure fire at a Lake Street residence. Girard and Lake Shore FD were dispatched to assist. Chief 560 arrived on scene and found fire showing from structure. Engine 572 was first in on attack. Engine 563 and mutual aid companies arrived and crews went to work on the fire. Springfield FD was dispatched for one engine to assist. Fire was knocked down from the exterior, then crews entered and worked from interior and on the roof. Fire was under control about 45 minutes after dispatch. Crews remained on scene to conduct salvage and overhaul.  


LCFC ATTENDS MEMORIAL DAY PARADES

May 25- Engine 572 and Utility 566 with the mule attended the Fairview and Girard Memorial Day parades. Hundred of residents lined the parade routes as the units made way to the cemeteries at the end where  memorial services were held. Each year LCFC takes part in remembering all who served, including local Fire Department Members.

 

 

 


ENGINE 563 GOES TO RUBBISH FIRE

May 25- LCFC was dispatched around 3:30 this morning for a rubbish fire behind Lake City Manufactured Homes. Chief 560 reported the fire as he was returning from an EMS Call. Engine 563 responded to the scene. Crews arrived and found a scrap pile containing wood and saw dust on fire. After knocking the fire down with water, foam was applied to ensure extinguishment. Crews were on scene about a half hour. No damage was done to nearby structures.

  


SQUAD 577 AND UTILITY 566 GO TO SPRINGFIELD ON MVA

May 23- LCFC was dispatched to assist Springfield FD on a motor vehicle accident in the 14000 block of West Lake Road around 7:00am.  Squad 577 and Utility 566 responded. One vehicle in a ditch with heavy damage and entrapment was reported by first arriving units.  Squad 577's crew assisted with extrication. One class 1 and one class 2 patient were found. Lifestar was requested to the scene.  Crews removed the roof of the vehicle to extricate the patients. Assistant Chief 561 handled Lifestar Landing Zone. Class 1 patient was flown by Lifestar to Hamot. Class 2 patient was transported by Lake City Squad 577. While transporting, Squad 577 diverted to Station 57 to meet Stat Medevac and fly their patient. U566 remained on scene for traffic control until vehicle was removed. PSP is investigating the accident.


LCFC PRACTICES WITH LIVE BURNS

 

May 18- For this weeks drill LCFC ventured out to Franklin Township and visited the training grounds. Crews set up hose lines and practiced hose advancement and interior fire attack on live burns in the burn tower. Crews use drills like this to break in probies and keep their skills sharp. Thank you to Walt Sumner and Mike Hill for assistance with the drill!

 

 


FIRE SAFETY HOUSE VISITS ELK VALLEY

 

May 15- Members from LCFC and Girard FD taught fire prevention using the Erie County Firefighters Association Fire Safety House this week to students at Elk Valley Elementary School. The Fire Safety House helps teach the proper way to escape a smoke filled home. By use of smoke detectors and a smoke machine, a simulated environment gives students a chance to see what it is like inside a smoke filled home and ensure they know how to stay low and find the safest exit.


LOCAL GIRL SCOUTS VISIT STATION

 

May 14- This evening a local Girl Scout troop visited station 56 for a tour of the station and equipment.  Assistant Chief Jeff Jobczynski showed the group engine 563 and explained the equipment on board and its purpose.  After the visit the group received their Fire Department visit badge. Lake City Police also had one of their vehicles at the station for the group to see.

 

 


CAR INTO TREE SENDS CREWS TO NURSERY RD

May 10- Shortly after 3:00 this afternoon LCFC was dispatched for a Vehicle accident on Nursery Road near Smith Street. Girard FD and West County Paramedics were also dispatched to assist. LCFC Engine 563 and Utility 566 responded. Units arrived on scene and found 1 vehicle into a tree with minor damage and single occupant out of the vehicle.  Occupant refused treatment. Units cleared scene around 3:30.


CREWS RESPOND TO TRAIN TRESTLE

May 9- LCFC was dispatched this evening for a rescue at the Norfolk Southern train trestle over Elk Creek. A person with their foot trapped in the tracks was reported by dispatch. U566 with the mule, Squad 577, and Engine 563 responded. Train traffic was stopped. Crews arrived at the staging area and the mule responded back to the trestle.  After investigation no persons were found on or near the trestle.  Crews were in service a short time later.

 


LCFC RESPONDS TO BRUSH FIRE

May 4- LCFC was dispatched for a reported brush fire along the railroad tracks on Elk Park Road around 4:00 this afternoon. Engine 572 and Utility 566 responded. Crews arrived on scene and found a small brush fire along the tracks. Train traffic was stopped while fire suppression was conducted. Crews had the fire under control quickly.  Units were on scene about 1 hour.

 

 


FIRE ALARM SENDS LCFC TO CHERRY ST.

 

May 2- LCFC was dispatched shortly before 7:00 this evening for an automatic fire alarm at a Cherry Street residence. Engine 563 responded. Crews arrived on scene and found nothing visible from the home. After investigation burnt food had set off the alarm. Crews ventilated the structure and were in service at 7:15.


CREWS RESPOND TO STRUCTURAL COLLAPSE

 

May 2- LCFC was dispatched to assist Girard on a structural collapse with entrapment at a residence on Northcreek Road. Units arrived on scene and found 2 class 3 patients. A two car garage under construction collapsed with individual working on it . LCFC Squad 577 and Girard Squad 557 both transported 1 patient to the hospital ALS. Crews cleared a short time later.

MEMBERS COMPLETE HAZMAT TRAINING

 

4/26/09- Today members of LCFC completed the Hazardous Materials Operations course. The 24 hour course teaches how to safely and effectively control, manage and mitigate a hazardous materials release until specialized units arrived. Today crews took their knowledge from the classroom to hands on training in the field, controlling a mocked release into a irrigation ditch.

 


ASSIST TO GIRARD ON SEARCH DETAIL

 

4/23/09- LCFC was dispatched to assist Girard FD with a search detail in Imperial Point this afternoon. A missing young girl sent crews to the area. Squad 577 and Utility 566 with the mule responded.  As LCFC units were arriving on scene command advised missing girl had been found and all were in service.

  


572, 566 AND MULE ASSIST 64 ON BRUSH FIRE

 

4/18/09- LCFC was dispatched to assist Springfield FD with a brush fire on Ridge Road. Engine 572 and Utility 566 with the mule responded. Crews arrived on scene and found approximately 17 acres on fire in the woods. The mule was utilized to get personnel back to the fire. The fire was under control in about 2 hours. Platea and Cranesville also assisted. 


572 and 566 GO TO GIRARD ON BRUSH FIRE

 

4/18/09- LCFC was dispatched around 1:00pm to assist Girard FD on a brush fire at Pine Trees Drive and Lake Street. C540 requested Lake City to assist. Engine 572 and Utility 566 responded. Approximately 4 acres were on fire. Crews worked the fire line and controlled the fire. The fire was a corn field being harvested. Fairview also assisted. 


ANNUAL EASTER EGG HUNT

 

4/12/09-Today LCFC held it's annual Easter egg hunt at the Lake Erie Community Park. 150 dozen eggs were colored and hidden throughout the park. Dozens of kids showed up for the event and those that found 1 of the 110 prize eggs received a chocolate bar. LCFC holds this annual event as one way to thank the community for their continuing support. 


MEMBERS RECEIVE HOLMATRO GOLD PINS

 

4/8/09- LCFC's George Reichert, Jeff Jobczynski and Marvin Waxham Jr, along with members from Girard and Fairview Fire Departments received Holmatro Gold Pins for their extrication efforts at a vehicle accident on December 5, 2008. The crews utilized Holmatro rescue equipment to perform the lengthy extrication of one patient pinned in an SUV.  Congratulations to all involved!

LCFC RECEIVES FORESTRY ASSISTANCE GRANT FROM DCNR

4/6/09- This evening president Juston Cannon accepted a check from Robert "Doc" Orr, District Forest Fire Warden. LCFC was awarded the 2008 Forestry Assistance Grant from Pennsylvania DCNR. The check in the amount of $1,934 with matching funds provided by the Fire Company was used to purchase wildland fire protective equipment for firefighters and a forestry firefighting pump. The Fire Company is continuously updating equipment to provide the best possible service to the community. Applying for grants is one way the Fire Company augments the donations from the public and Volunteer's fund raising efforts.


MEMBERS ATTEND PUMPS II COURSE

4/4/09- Asst. Chief Jeff Jobczynski and FF Jen Waxham attended the pumps II course hosted by Lake Shore FD this weekend. The course teaches advanced pump operations and supply line set up. Members from Lake Shore, Fairview and Franklin Township also took part in the course.

CREW TAKES FARM CONFINED SPACE CLASS

3/28/09- Members from LCFC along with Springfield, McKean, Cranesville, and Conneaut Ohio Fire Departments attended a Farm Rescue Confined Space Course this weekend hosted by Springfield FD. The course taught participants how to properly handle confined space rescue in farm equipment such as silos. Thank you to Baxter Farms for use of your facility!

WATER RESCUE TEAM USES DISPATCH TO TRAIN

3/27/09- LCFC Water Rescue Team used the opportunity this evening to go out on the water. After being dispatched to assist Springfield on the water rescue, crews made their way to Walnut Creek access and launched the boat and Jet Skis. The team practiced with the equipment on Lake Erie and ensured it was ready to respond in the upcoming season. The boat underwent some maintenance and upgrades this winter and crews could tell a difference in more speed and safer handling. After about an hour on the 35 degree water the team returned to shore.


WATER RESCUE TEAM DISPATCHED TO ASSIST 64

3/27/09- LCFC was dispatched to assist Springfield FD on a water rescue near Camp Judson on Lake Erie. Dispatch advised a kayaker had capsized and was in the water. Crews responded to the station and geared up in their water rescue Suits. As Rescue 579, Rescue  Boat 578, and the Jet Skis pulled out of the station they were placed in service. Kayaker made his way to shore and did not need assistance. Water temperature is in the mid 30's . This was the first water rescue dispatch of the year for LCFC.


STRUCTURE FIRE SENDS CREWS TO WEST LAKE RD

3/25/09-  LCFC was dispatched this evening for a structure fire on West Lake Road. Dispatch advised that building was totally involved spreading to nearby structure. LCFC had a full response, Girard, Fairview, Lake Shore, Platea and West County Paramedics were dispatched to assist. Chief 561 confirmed fully involved structure. Crews arrived on scene and began fire suppression. Negative extension to nearby structure was found. Crews had fire under control with in an hour.  Crews operated on scene for about 2 hours. Structure was a total loss. 


 CREWS KEEP BUSY ON RUNS THROUGHOUT DAY

3/25/09- LCFC was dispatched around 10:30 this morning for the Fast team to assist Lake Shore on an explosion.  E563 responded with a crew to the Manchester Road residence. Lake Shore arrived in the area and reported nothing showing.  Lake City was later placed in service. Crews called in Penelec to investigate.

Shortly after noon, LCFC was dispatched for a brush fire on Nursery Road. E572 responded shortly after dispatch.  Crews arrived on scene and found a small fire behind a residence. Fire was quickly contained and extinguished.  LCFC reminds residence to use caution when burning in dry conditions.

Around 6:20 this evening LCFC was dispatched to assist Girard on a Fire Alarm at a Main Street residence. E563 responded with a full crew. Girard E553 arrived on scene and reported nothing showing. LCFC was placed in service as they arrived on scene.


LCFC TAKES TO THE TRAILS FOR DRILL

3/23/09- For this weeks drill LCFC conducted training on the mule. Crews went to a local park near Edgewood Drive and practiced operating the mule in tight corridors and avoiding obstacles on the trail.  With outdoor activities increasing as spring rolls in the mule will see use in the upcoming months for search & rescues and other emergencies.

 

ENGINE 563 RESPONDS TO RESIDENTIAL FIRE ALARM

3/9/09- LCFC was dispatched for an automatic fire alarm at a residence on North Edgewood Drive around 11:00 this morning. Engine 563 responded shortly after dispatch. 563 arrived on scene and found nothing showing from the one story structure. The crew investigated and found that cleaning personnel had accidentally set off the alarm. Units were placed in service and returned to the station.


STRUCTURE FIRE SENDS ENGINE 572 TO SPRINGFIELD

3/8/09- LCFC was dispatched for engine 572 to assist Springfield FD with a structure fire on Happy Valley road shortly before 9:00 this evening.  E572 responded with a crew of 5. Chief 640 arrived on scene and reported a working fire in an abandoned structure in the woods. Engine 572 assisted with water supply and it's crew assisted with fire suppression and overhaul. Fire was quickly under control and Crews worked on overhaul for about two hours. Girard, Cranesville and Platea FD also assisted on scene.


RESCUE BOAT 578 RETURNS TO SERVICE

3/1/09- Rescue Boat 578 was sent out for engine maintenance and a transom build up at a Warren County boat repair company in December.  The boat was picked up and tested today in the Allegheny River.  With the maintenance and transom build up, the boat almost doubles in speed and allows for entry into shallower waters.  Rescue 578 is now back in service

MEMBERS ATTEND ANNUAL BANQUET

2/21/09-  Members and invited guests attended the annual banquet this evening g held at the Mckean - Edinboro VFW on Route 98 in Franklin Township. Dan Edder, owner of Edder Funeral Home in Girard MC'd the event. Members enjoyed dinner, awards presentation, a slideshow and music. Members receiving service pins were as follows Maria Cannon for 1 year, Robert Powell Jr for 10 years, Tim Olesnanik for 15 years, and Steve Olesnanik for 25 years. A presentation was also made of plaques listing all of LCFC's past Chiefs and Life Members since the start of the company.

LCFC REIGNITES JUNIOR FIREFIGHTERS PROGRAM

2/20/09-  Assistant Chief Jeff Jobczynski and Firefighter Tom Hosack held a presentation at the Girard High School this morning. The presentation gave information on the LCFC Junior Firefighters Program which is for students ages 16 and 17.  A few participants showed interest. BUSY MORNING FOR LCFC

2/12/09-  LCFC was dispatched for multiple trees and wires down throughout the morning hours after high winds swept through the area.  Crews responded and cleared trees and provided traffic control. LCFC was also dispatched for a fire alarm at Elk Valley Elementary school, which turned out to be a false alarm.

 


LCFC & EDINBORO FD PRACTICE ON THE ICE

2/8/09-  LCFC and Edinboro FD took advantage of the weather to conduct ice rescue drills on Edinboro Lake. Members of both departments with Ice Rescue Operations level training practiced various rescue scenarios on the ice.  Ongoing training keeps the crews skills sharp and ready to respond in the event of a real emergency.  The drill comes one day after around 150 people were rescued from Lake Erie near Toledo, OH after the ice floe they were on drifted more than 1,000 yards from shoreline.


LCFC ASSISTS 54 ON REPORTED STRUCTURE FIRE

2/2/09-  LCFC was dispatched around 8:00 this evening to assist Girard FD with a possible structure fire at CIL Asset Recovery on Route 20 and Route 18. A passerby reported seeing fire and smoke coming from the structure. Platea, Springfield, Cranesville, Fairview, and West County Paramedics also assisted. LCFC had a full response. Medic 1 arrived on scene and reported light smoke showing from the structure. E563 arrived on scene first and began investigating. Girard E552 and E553 and Lake City E572, U566, and Sq577 arrived on scene and crews joined in the investigation. During the investigation no fire or smoke was found. All units were placed in service.

 


SMOKE INVESTIGATION ON CHERRY STREET

2/2/09- LCFC was dispatched shortly after 7:00 this evening for a smoke investigation at the Cherry Street Apartments laundry mat. E563 and U566 responded. Crews arrived on scene and investigated. After investigating it was determined that the dryer exhaust was what was seen. Crews returned in service.

MVA SENDS CREWS TO WEST LAKE ROAD

1/30/09-  LCFC and West County Paramedics were dispatched for a 2 vehicle MVA  on West Lake Road around 7:30 this morning. E563 and Sq577 responded. Units arrived on scene to find 2 vehicles with moderate damage. All occupants were out of the vehicles with no injures. Units handled traffic control until vehicle were cleared from roadway.


CREWS RESPOND TO ROLLOVER ON MIDDLE ROAD

1/29/09-  LCFC and West County Paramedics were dispatched shortly after 1:00pm today for a rollover MVA on Middle Road near Nursery Road.  Squad 577 responded and arrived on scene to find 1 truck on it's roof in the ditch with all occupants out of the vehicle. Both patients were uninjured. All other units were placed in service. Sq577 handled traffic control until vehicle was removed by tow truck.

 


LCFC ASSISTS GIRARD ON SMOKE IN A BUILDING

1/27/09-  LCFC was dispatched around 6:30 this evening to assist Girard FD with smoke in the building at the O'Leary Dental Office on Main Sreet in Girard.  Fairview, Cranesville,  West Ridge, and West County Paramedics were also dispatched to assist. Lake City E563, Sq577 and U566 responded. Girard Chief 540 and E553 arrived on scene and reported light smoke visible through the windows. LCFC crews arrived on scene. Crew found burning wax in the basement to be the cause, no fire or extension. Crews ventilated the structure and were in service shortly after 7pm.

MOCK ICE RESCUE SENDS CREWS TO LOCAL POND

1/19/09- For this weeks drill crews found themselves en route to a pond on North Creek Road for a mock ice rescue. One patient had fallen through the ice and the incoming units and crew operated as though it was a real rescue scenario. With the use of the RDC the crew pulled the victim from the ice and to shore. Weekly drills such as these help the water rescue team freshen up on their skills and knowledge.


OUR CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF PAST ERIE FIRE CHIEF RICHARD ROBB

1/19/09- The Lake City Fire Company sends its deepest sympathy and condolences to the family and friends of Richard Robb, past fire chief of the City of Erie FD. Chief Robb served for 36 years with the Erie Fire Department. After his years of service, he worked hard to create the Erie Firefighter's Historical Museum. The museum captures many changes in the fire service over the years and hundreds have visited and learned from the elaborate collection he worked hard to establish.  His dedication to the fire service will always be remembered.
