HIGH
WINDS BRING DOWN TREE AND WIRES
12/28/08- LCFC was dispatched
around 8:00am, during very high winds, for a reported tree and wires
in the roadway on Rice Ave. U566 responded and found a cable line in
the roadway and a tree with electrical lines down in a residence
drive way. The cable line was cleared from the roadway. The
homeowner was aware of the tree with electrical line and had already
notified the utility companies. U566 returned in service. |

CHIMNEY FIRE TURNS INTO STRUCTURE FIRE
12/25/08- LCFC, Girard FD
and West County Paramedics were dispatched for a chimney fire at a
Williams Road residence this evening. As members arrived at
the station, dispatch advised that fire had now spread to the roof.
Engine 563 and 572, Squad 577 and Utility 566 responded. Additional
units from Girard, Platea, and Lake Shores FAST team were dispatched
to assist. West County Medic arrived on scene and reported a
working structure fire. E563 arrived on scene and sent an
interior and exterior attack crew to the structure. Crews had the
fire under control within minutes. |

CHRISTMAS DAY MVA
12/25/08- LCFC and West County
Paramedics were dispatched for a 2 car accident at Rice and Lake
streets. U566 and Sq577 responded. Crews arrived on scene and
found 2 vehicles with minor damage and 1 injury. Patient was
packaged and loaded into Squad for transport. U566 crew assisted
with patient care and traffic control. Scene was clear in about a
half hour. |
TREE
ACROSS ROADWAY
12/24/08- LCFC was dispatched
around 9:00 this evening for a tree across the road way near Route 5
and Elk Creek. Utility 566 responded and found a tree over the guard
rail blocking the west bound lane. Crew directed traffic and
removed the tree. The roadway was open in about 10 minutes. High
winds were in the are throughout the evening.

RESPONDS TO LAKE AND HALL MVA
12/22/08- LCFC and West County
Paramedics were dispatched for a 2 car accident at Lake St and Hall
Ave this morning. Engine 563 responded. Crew arrived on scene and
found 2 cars minor damage, no injuries. Vehicles were both drivable
and preparing to leave the scene. LCFC was not needed and returned
in service. |

ALARM AT STATION AND A RESIDENCE
12/21/08- This afternoon LCFC
was dispatched for a fire alarm at the LCFC Rice Ave station.
Members arrived at the station to find nothing showing. Crews
investigated and found a faulty detector to be the problem. later in
the day LCFC was dispatched for a fire alarm at a residence on Maple
Ave. 56L1 responded to the scene and reported burnt food to have set
off the alarm. LCFC was placed in service. |

RESPOND TO ROUTES 5 &18 FOR MVA
12/17/08-
This evening LCFC was dispatched for a MVA at Route 5 & 18. Squad
577 and Engine 563 responded. Crews arrived on scene to
find 2 vehicles with moderate damage. Patients were assessed and one
patient was transported to the hospital. Crews cleared up debris and
directed traffic. Incident was terminated a short time later. |

MARTIN AND RICE
12/12/08-
LCFC and West County Paramedics were dispatched around 6:45 this
evening for a two vehicle MVA at Martin and Rice Ave. Squad 577
responded. Units arrived on scene and found 2 vehicles with minor
damage. Crew assessed patients. One patient was packaged and
transported to the hospital. |

DISPATCHED FOR REPORTED ROLLOVER MVA
12/06/08-
LCFC and West County Paramedics were dispatched this evening for a
rollover MVA at West Middle Road and Townline Road. Prior to LCFC
responding West County Paramedic arrived on scene and reported 1 SUV
in a ditch upside down. West County Paramedic investigated and found
no patients in or around the vehicle. LCFC was placed in service.

ESCORTS SANTA THROUGH TOWN
12/05/08-
This evening LCFC continued it's annual tradition of escorting Santa
throughout the Lake City and Girard Area. Utility 566, Engine 563,
and Squad 577 participated in the parade. The event is put on by the
Girard-Lake City Chamber of Commerce.

ON MVA SENDS CREWS TO MIDDLE ROAD
|
 |
12/05/08-
LCFC and West County Paramedics were dispatched around 7:15 this
morning for a 2 vehicle accident with injuries at Middle Road and
Fairplane. Chief 560 arrived on location and found 2 vehicles head
on with heavy damage and entrapment. Girard FD was requested for
Rescue 558 and Squad 557 and Fairview FD for Rescue 539, as well as
an additional West County Squad. Lake City Sq577 arrived on scene
and began patient care and extrication. Sq557, R558, and R539
arrived and crews assisted in extrication. 1 patient was extricated
from a pick up by cutting the door, while a lengthy extrication was
required on the 2nd vehicle. Crews cut off all four doors, removed
the roof, and rolled the dash to extricate the entrapped patient.
Four patients were transported to the hospital for treatment. Crews
remained on scene to clear debris and returned a short time later. |

RESCUE
/ RECOVERY SENDS CREWS TO ELK CREEK |
 |
11/27/08-LCFC was dispatched
around 10:00 this morning for a man down near Elk Creek tubes. Squad
577, Utility 566 and the mule, Rescue 579, and West County
Paramedics responded. Units arrived at a staging area on North Creek
Road near the tracks. One crew made their way down to the patient,
who was found along the bank inside the tubes. A class 5 patient was
found and the incident switched to a recovery. The second crew
donned water rescue PPE. The mule and rescue trailer transported the
water rescue crew to the creek. The Rapid deployment craft was
inflated and crew entered the water. The RDC made their way to the
patient inside the tubes and loaded them onto a stokes. Once secured
the patient was transported downstream in the RDC to meet up with
the mule and rescue trailer. The mule transported the patient to the
staging area. |

ASSIST
TO SPRINGFIELD FD
11/27/08-
LCFC was dispatched to assist Springfield FD on a structure fire
shortly after 8:00 this evening. Engine 572 and Utility 566
responded to the Holdson Drive residence. Chief 640 arrived on scene
and reported nothing showing from the residence. Smoke was then
reported inside the residence, mainly contained to the garage area.
No fire was found. Chief 640 placed Lake City in service prior to
arrival on scene. |

ALARM SENDS CREW TO MARTIN AVE HOME
11/27/08-LCFC was dispatched
for a Carbon Monoxide alarm with no illness at a Martin Avenue
residence this evening. E563 responded to the home. Crew arrived on
scene and investigated for any CO present in the home with monitors.
No elevated levels were found. A faulty detector was to blame. Crew
returned from scene a short time later. |

RESPONDS TO LAKE SHORE
11/27/08-LCFC Rapid
Interventions Team was dispatched to assist Lake Shore Fire
Department on a house filling with smoke, possible structure fire
around 7:45 this morning. LCFC answered up and Engine 572 responded
within minutes to the Townsend Road residence. While en route LCFC
was place in service by command. E572
returned in service. |

WINTERY CONDITIONS LEAD TO CAR VS BUS
11/10/08-
This morning LCFC was dispatched for a motor vehicle accident on Elk
Park Road near the Elk Creek overpass. Sq577 and U566 responded.
Crews arrived on scene to find one car rolled over off the roadway
and a school bus with damage to the rear. One patient was self
extricated from the car and no students were on the school bus.
Patient from the car was transported to the hospital. Crew remained
on scene until both vehicles were towed away. |

MULE
ASSIST TO SPRINGFIELD F.D.
11/4/08-
LCFC was dispatched to assist Springfield F.D. with the
mule and rescue trailer today. The call came in this morning to
assist on an injured person off the roadway near a wooded area on Route 5
near Route 20. U566 and the mule responded. Crew arrived on scene
and unloaded the mule and rescue trailer. Mule responded to the
incident scene, approximately 1000 feet from the roadway. Crew found a patient with injuries due to a tree
kicking back on them. Patient was packaged and loaded onto rescue
trailer, then transported to Squad 647. Squad 647 transported
patient to the hospital. |

PUMPKIN PATROL
10/31/08-
Tonight LCFC conducted it's annual tradition of patrolling the Lake
City community during the trick or treating hours. Engine 572,
Rescue 578, Utility 566 and the Mule staged
throughout the town to slow traffic and monitor for any suspicious
activities. No incidents occurred. |

THE ONLY LEVEL II ACCREDITED IN REGION
10/27/08-
Today LCFC received word that they were awarded PA Water Rescue
Level II Accreditation. LCFC is now the only PA Region II
Level II accredited team and 1 of only 16 in the state. This
is a big accomplishment that has been years in the making! |

MEMBERS COMPLETE WATER RESCUE II COURSE
10/26/08- Two
LCFC members completed Water Rescue II today. Lieutenant Brian Platz
and Juston Cannon traveled to Transfer Fire Company near Hermitage ,
PA this weekend for the 2 day course. The class focuses on
rescue boat handling, operations, and safety. Thank you Transfer
Fire Company for offering the class. |

RESPONDS TO REPORTED STRUCTURE FIRE
10/23/08-
Shortly after 7:00am LCFC was dispatched for a
structure fire at Twinkle Time daycare on Lake Street in Lake
City. Girard, Springfield, Lake Shore for the RIT, and west county
paramedic were dispatched to assist. E572 arrived on scene and found
nothing showing. Crew made entry and found a small
electrical fire
near an outlet. All incoming companies were placed in service except
for Girard E553. Crew secured the power and extinguished fire. No
extension was found. Crew went in service a short time later.

VEHICLE FIRE SENDS CREWS TO DUNN AVE
10/23/08-
Around 12:20 this morning LCFC was dispatched for a
vehicle fire on Dunn Ave. Engine 572 responded. Crews
arrived on scene to find a pick up truck heavily involved. Crews
pulled an attack line from 572 and extinguished the fire. |

RESPONDS TO ASSIST GIRARD
10/21/2008- This morning
LCFC was dispatched for the Mule and Rescue trailer to assist Girard
F.D. for an injured fisherman in Elk Creek. U566 and the Mule
responded. Crews arrived on scene near the Girard VFW pavilion along
Elk Creek. The Mule and trailer responded to the patient about
100yds down stream. Patient was packaged and loaded onto the rescue
trailer for transport to the squad. Girard Squad 557
transported patient to the hospital. |

10/20/2008- LCFC was
dispatched the evening for the Rapid Interventions Team to assist
Lake Shore F.D. on a Structure Fire in Millcreek. Engine 572
responded with a crew. While enroute Lake City was placed in service
by command. Engine 572 returned to quarters. |

10/19/08- Congratulations Lieutenant Jeff Jobczynski on receiving
your PA Water Rescue Association Instructor certification. Lt.
Jobczynski traveled to Bellefonte, Pa near
State College to attend the 3 day instructors course. Jeff is
now certified to instruct
Water Rescue and Emergency Response courses. |

FIRE PREVENTION WEEK ENDS
10/9/2008- Today
was the last day of Fire Prevention week at Elk valley Elementary
School. The week was filled with many activities and lessons to
teach the students more about how to prevent fires and what to do in
an emergency. We hope the students and their families learn from the
information. |

WATER RESCUE II ACCREDITATION INSPECTION
10/08/2008- This evening
LCFC's water rescue program underwent a thorough inspection.
Pat Shine from PA Water Rescue Association traveled to station 57
and conducted an inspection on the training and equipment the water
rescue team has at the present time. LCFC received it's water rescue
level I accreditation in 2006 and after continuing training,
equipment upgrades and purchasing, the program was ready for the
level II inspection. We are awaiting the results from the
inspection. LCFC would be the only Region 2 level II accredited
team. |

MULE GOES TO EDINBORO UNIVERSITY
10/04/2008-
LCFC sent the Mule and rescue trailer to Edinboro University today
for their homecoming. Edinboro Fire Dept. requested the unit to be
on stand-by in case of a medical emergency due to the limited
access. Lieutenant Jeff Jobczynski and EMS personnel from Edinboro
F.D. crewed the unit. |

CREW DRILLS AT TRAINING GROUNDS |

09/29/2008-
Tonight
for LCFC's weekly drill crew headed to Franklin Township Fire
Training Grounds. The crew utilized the facility to practice
ladder and hose placement, RIT operations, Search and Rescue
tactics, and emergency evacuation. The training facility is
used periodically by LCFC to refresh on skills and break in new
members. |

09/26/2008- Tonight LCFC was dispatched for a vehicle accident at Route 5
and Fairplane Road with entrapment. Sq577, E563, and U566 responded
along with Medic 3. Fairview FD was also dispatched for their
rescue. Units
were advised patient was self extricated. Crews arrived on scene to
find one vehicle off the roadway with patient out of vehicle.
Patient was assessed and refused treatment. Crews cleared a short
time later. |

ANNUAL CRUISE IN HELD AT ST. 56 |
|
09/26/2008- This
evening, LCFC held it's 6th annual Cruise-In. More than 60 vehicles
and a few motorcycles came to support the fire company. The
auxiliary sold BBQ Rib dinners and other foods. Best Of Show
went to Dennis Christopher for his 1969 Chevelle. People's Choice
went to Mr. Fiolek for his 1967 Chevelle, who also won the 50/50
drawing. Thank you Watson's Auto Body for judging and to all those who
came to support our event! |

SPRINGFIELD STRUCTURE FIRE SENDS CREWS TO RT. 215 |
|

09/18/2008-
LCFC was dispatched this evening to assist Springfield F.D. with a
structure fire on Route 215. A fully involved garage was reported.
Engine 572 and Squad 577 responded. Chief 640 had command. Crews
arrived on scene and found garage fully involved with some extension
to side of the nearby home. Crews worked quickly to stop further
spread to home. Girard, Platea and Cranesville F.D. also assisted.
Crews were on scene for about 2 and a half hours. Building was a
total loss. No injuries were reported. |

STAY BUSY THROUGHOUT EVENING

09/14/2008-
LCFC was dispatched shortly before 9:00PM this evening for a salvage
detail on Maple Avenue. The strong winds in excess of 50 MPH caused
trees and debris to fall into the roadway. Crews cleared roadway and
returned in service. After returning from salvage detail LCFC was
dispatched for one engine to assist Springfield F.D. on a house
filling with smoke on Old Lake Road. Engine 563 responded. While
enroute LCFC was placed in service by command. Crews then responded
to additional salvage details of trees and debris in the roadways
and a tree on a house on West Lake Rd. |

RESCUE SENDS CREWS TO MIDDLE ROAD

09/11/2008-
LCFC was dispatched for a farm accident this evening around 6:00pm
on Middle Rd. Report of 1 victim with a foot entrapped between a
partial tree and the tractor were given to crews. Squad 577,
Utility 566 with the mule, and West County Medic 3 responded. Crews
arrived on scene and used the Holmatro tool to spread between the
tree and the tractor to free the victims foot. Squad 577 transported
the victim to the hospital. |

ASSIST TO SPRINGFIELD F.D.

09/06/2008-
LCFC was dispatched this evening for the mule to assist Springfield
F.D. with an ATV accident along the tracks near Scott Road in
Springfield Township. Utility 566 and the Mule Trailer responded.
Upon arrival on scene, crew was ordered to unload the mule with the
rescue trailer and respond into the accident scene. One patient was
packaged and loaded onto the mule's rescue trailer. The patient was
transported to Squad 647 for transport to the hospital. |

DISPATCHED FOR BRUSH FIRE
08/25/2008-
LCFC was dispatched for a reported brush fire along the CSX tracks
in the area of Fairplane road this evening. Caller reported
smoke showing from the wooded area north of the track. Crews
answered up at the station and Deputy Chief 570 arrived on location.
C570 reported a controlled burn and LCFC was placed in service.

UNKNOWN TYPE FIRE SENDS CREWS TO KEYSTONE DRIVE |

08/20/2008-
LCFC was dispatched for an Unknown type fire on Keystone Drive this
evening. E563 responded from station 56 and Springfield FD was
dispatched to assist. E572, Sq577, and U566 responded from staging
at the
Airport Emergency Drill. E563 arrived on scene to find fire and
smoke coming
from the exterior rear of a manufacturing facility where pallets and
storage racks were kept. Crews made quick work of the fire.
The fire is believed to be accidental. |

STAGES FOR AIRPORT EMERGENCY DRILL |

08/20/2008-
This evening E572, Sq577, and U566 with the mule staged near the Erie
International Airport for a Alert 3 Aircraft Emergency drill. Each
year the airport conducts a disaster drill to ensure all responding
units and command are ready in the event an actual emergency. Many emergency services throughout the
area participate in this drill. LCFC diverted to a unknown type fire
before being called into the scene. |

THE EMBANKMENT SENDS CREWS TO COMMUNITY PARK
08/19/2008-
This evening LCFC was dispatched for a vehicle over the embankment at
Lake Erie Community Park. Initial reports of a vehicle over the embankment with 1
person trapped were given to crews. Sq577 responded and confirmed 1
vehicle about 100'+ down the embankment. E563, R579, Girard Sq557,
R558, Fairview FD Technical Rescue Team, West County paramedics, and Lifestar all responded.

DISPATCHED VEHICLE ON TRACKS
08/17/2008-
This morning LCFC was dispatched for a vehicle stuck on the railroad
track near the Maple Ave crossing. The vehicle trying to free
itself alerted a nearby resident who call 911 and CSX. Sq577 responded
and arrived on scene to find 1 vehicle off of the roadway and caught up
on the railroad tracks. Train traffic was stopped prior to crews
arriving on scene. Patient was assessed. Crews remained on scene
until vehicle was freed. |

08/12/2008-
This evening LCFC was dispatched for the water rescue team to assist Edinboro FD. A missing person was reported near the waters of
Edinboro Lake. Crews arrived at the station and before Rescue 578
and 579 made it out the door, LCFC was placed in service. The person
was found uninjured. |

RESPONDS TO REPORTED STRUCTURE FIRE

08/10/2008-
This evening crews were dispatched to Peaceful Acres Trailer Park on
West Lake Road for a reported structure fire. Lake City along with
Girard, Fairview, and Lake Shore were dispatched. First arriving
units reported a shed fully involved with extension into the
trailer. Engine 572 arrived on scene and the initial attack line was
pulled. Crews worked the fire and had it under control within
am hour. The trailer was found out to be vacant and is under
investigation. No injuries were reported. |

08/09/2008- This
evening LCFC was dispatched for a Fire Alarm activation at Van Air
Systems on Mechanic Street in Lake City. Chief 560 responded to the
scene. Crews answered up at the station and stood by while 560
investigated. Nothing was found and crews were put in service. |

MOTORCYCLE SENDS SQ577 & E563
08/05/2008- This
afternoon LCFC was dispatched for a vehicle accident at the
intersections of Maple and Hall Avenues. Squad 577 and Engine 563
responded, along with West County Paramedics. Crews arrived on scene to
find one car and a motorcycle involved in the accidents. EMS attended to
patient care. One patient was transported and three others refused. |

LCFC ATTENDS DAN RICE DAYS PARADE AND FIREWORKS STANDBY
08/02/2008- Today Engine 563 & 572 along with squad 577
participated in the annual Dan Rice Days parade. The parade
route was loaded with spectators and children awaiting candy.
Fire departments from throughout the area participated in this
years parade. This evening crews stood by near the Girard High
School for the Fireworks display sponsored by Mercyhurst West.
No incidents occurred during the fireworks. LCFC thanks those
who came and supported us at the Chuck o luck wheel at Dan Rice
Days! |

PRACTICE WITH RESCUE 578
07/28/08-
Tonight's
drill crews used the great conditions and weather to freshen up on
rescue 578 operation skills. Crews practiced man over board pickups and
handling in Elk Creek's tight channel. This continuing practice provides
the team with more knowledge and training for when a real emergency
happens. |

WISHES FF SUMMERSON THE BEST OF LUCK
Firefighter Greg Summerson will
be leaving LCFC after 2 years of service. Summerson will begin his Navy
training beginning July 28, 2008. LCFC wishes Greg the best of luck in
his mission to become a Navy Seal. |

VEHICLE ACCIDENT AT ROUTES 5 AND 18
07/26/08- Around
1100pm LCFC was dispatched for a two car accident at the intersection of
Route 5 and 18. Engine 563, Squad 577, and Utility 566 responded. Crews
arrived on location to find two vehicles with moderate damage, all

563 carried the newly married Emily and Thomas Hosack through Girard as
they made their way to the reception. Many LCFC members were in

RAINS CAUSE PUMP DETAIL
07/23/08- This
evenings heavy rain sent Engine 572 and Utility 566 to Middle and
Fairplane roads for a pump detail. Residence were experiencing flooding
in their basement. Crew used a portable pump to lower water level in
drainage ditch out front of home which was overflowing and clear debris.
Water level decreased and flooding in basement subsided. Crews cleared
in about an hour. |

07/21/08- The
heat and humidity this evening gave a great opportunity for LCFC members
to participate in a fun drill. The crew played water soccer behind
station 56. The soccer game is played with the use of 2 personnel
on each hose line. It is a game of communication and strategy. |

LCFC MEMBERS ATTEND STRUCTURAL BURN SESSION
07/20/08- Three
Lake City firefighters completed a Structural Burn Session held by Perry
Hi-way Hose Co. this weekend. Lieutenant J. Jobczynski, FF J. Powell,
and FF G. Summerson attended the two day course which focuses on
structural firefighting tactics and safety. After a day of classroom
learning and dry runs Saturday, Sunday was a day of live burns giving
firefighters experience and knowledge. Thank you Perry Hi-way and

was dispatched to assist Girard F.D. with a investigation of smoke in a
residence. Engine 563 responded. 563's crew was assigned to report to
the structure. A smoldering mulch fire was found outside the residence.
Crew's used a water extinguishers to put out the fire. No damage was
done to the home. Crews cleared a short time later. |

IN DISTRESS SENDS LCFC WATER RESCUE SKIS TO ACTION

07/06/08- This
morning LCFC was dispatched to assist the US Coast Guard with a
boat taking on water near Crooked Creek in Springfield, PA.
Reports that the boats motor were almost totally submerged were received
by Lake City Crews. U566 and the Jet Skis responded to Elk Creek
Access for launching. 577 also responded. The Skis responded to the boat were they
ensured the boaters were in no immediate danger. Shortly after,
USCG arrived with their vessel. The boat was able to return under
its own power to the Access Area. USCG and the skis escorted the
boat in to assure safety.

MEMBERS CONTINUE WATER RESCUE TRAINING
06/28- 06/29/08- Members
from LCFC and Lake Shore F.D. attended the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commissions
Emergency Boat Operations and Rescue Phase II course. Members learned proper
handling of the boat and each persons role on the boat during a rescue.
Saturday was the classroom portion of the course and Sunday was spent
out on the bay conducting practical's. Thank you to the instructors
for a great class and to Kuhl Hose for use of their water rescue boat! |

RESPONDS TO MOBILE HOME FIRE

- LCFC was dispatched around 8:00 this evening for a reported mobile
home fire in the Peaceful Acres Trailer Park, 9800 West Lake Road.
Engine 563, Engine 572, Squad 577, and Utility 566 responded. Girard F.D.
assisted. Crews arrived on scene to find smoke coming from the
structure. Engine 572's crew pulled the attack line and enter the
structure. Crews found heavy fire conditions in the kitchen area. The
fire was under control quickly. The mobile home sustained heavy damage.
Crews cleared the scene around 10:00pm. No injuries were reported. |

- LCFC was dispatched to assist Springfield F.D. with the mule on a car vs.
train accident on Abels Road. Utility 566 and the mule responded. One
vehicle was found along the train tracks with heavy damage. Crews were
unable to find anyone in or around the vehicle. A search began to locate
the occupant. About two hours later the owner was located by police,
without injuries. Crews cleared the scene once no injuries were
confirmed. |

DISPATCHED FOR WATER RESCUE OFF WALNUT CREEK
06/18/08
- LCFC was dispatched for a water rescue this afternoon off of Walnut
Creek, assisting to Lake Shore Fire Department. Reports of a kayaker in distress
about a half mile off shore were relayed to LSFD, LCFC, US
Coast Guard and PA Fish and Boat Commission. LCFC Responded with Rescue
579 and Rescue Boat 578. While enroute LCFC was placed in service. PA
Fish and Boat Commission picked up the person in distress with their
conservation boat and transported them to the access area for a medical evaluation.

FIRE SENDS CREWS TO STERLING TECHNOLOGIES

- LCFC was dispatched around 1030 this morning for a reported oven fire at
Sterling Technologies on Keystone Drive. Engine 563, Engine 572, Utility
566 and Squad 577 responded. Smoke was visible upon arrival. Crew
entered building to find flames enclosed in the piece of equipment. The
equipment was a large oven used in the production of plastic goods. Crew
extinguished flames and ventilated facility. No extensions were found on
the interior or exterior of the facility. Extinguishment was attempted
by employees with the use of fire extinguishers with no success prior to
LCFC arrival. Cause is under investigation by the facility. Crew cleared
the scene around 1130am. |

CARNIVAL COMES TO AN END
06/15/08
- LCFC would like to thank all who worked, performed, and attended the
84th annual carnival. Due to weather conditions, severe lighting and
winds, LCFC was forced to shut down early on Friday night. We thank
all who were in attendance for cooperating during our evacuation into the
fire station to help maintain a safe environment. Also, thank you to the

- LCFC was dispatched for a water rescue around midnight. Initial reports
of a capsized boat with people in the water off of Elk Creek access were received
from dispatch. Crews staged at Station 57 while obtaining more information
from dispatch. More information indicated victims in the water were picked
up by a passing boat with no injuries. 577 responded to the access area
were nothing was found. Crews were placed in service. |

06/05/08
- LCFC with mutual aid from Girard, Platea, Springfield and Fairview
responded to report of a home struck by lightning and filling with smoke
this morning. Engine 563 and Engine 572 responded from Lake City. Crews
arrived on scene to find nothing showing from the residential structure.
The chimney exploded upon the strike destroying it from above the roof. Crews investigated the home with the thermal imaging camera. Nothing was
found. Crews cleared a short time later. |

- LCFC was dispatched to assist Lake Shore F.D. on a structure fire on

PRACTICES WITH SEARCH AND RESCUE DOGS
05/28/08
- LCFC and Girard F.D. spent the evening training with the Five Star K9
Search and Rescue Team. Crews gained knowledge in the capabilities
of the dogs, what they look for when sent out on a mission, and other
information that may be required if they are requested to assist. The
Five Star K9 Search and Rescue Team is made up of volunteers who commit
themselves and their dogs to help in the event of a search and rescue
which may require a K9. |

parades. Hundred of residents lined the parade routes as the units made
way to the cemeteries at the end where a memorial service was held. Each
year LCFC takes part in remembering all who served, including local Fire

- LCFC sent Engine 564 on it's way this morning. The 1973 GMC Howe pumper
was taken out of service this week and sold at the Auction. The truck was
in need of repairs and the membership voted to sell it. The trucks primary
duty was brush fires, although it did serve as the attack pumper at a
garage fire in the summer of 2006. |

York-Seaway. 1 patient was found outside of the vehicle. The vehicle
went off the roadway striking a tree and came to rest on the opposite
side of the road in the entrance of York-Seaway. PD transported the

RESCUE TEAM CONDUCTS DRILL AT POOL
04/30/08
- LCFC water rescue team utilized the Girard High School pool for training
this evening. The team trained with the recently purchased anti-exposure
coveralls. This protective gear provides hypothermia protection and
flotation. This equipment will be used by the team in cold water rescue.
Members got a chance to put on the equipment and practice in the
pool. Springfield F.D. also took part in the training with their
water rescue gear. |

MOCK WRECK FOR GIRARD HIGH
SCHOOL
4/25/08- LCFC along with Girard
F.D., Lake City and Girard Police, and Dan Edder conducted a mock wreck for
Girard High School students. The wreck is designed to show students the results
of mixing drinking and driving. There was one dead, a few patients and one taken
into custody by the police for DUI. Jeff Gadley, of Girard F.D. narrated the
scene. This is a yearly event held near prom to remind what can happen.

4/23/08- LCFC was
dispatched this afternoon for a brush fire on West Lake Road. Engine 572
responded. E572 arrived on location and found a large tree trunk on fire
with no exposures. Crew pulled the forestry line and extinguished fire.
Owner was burning the large stump when the fire got larger than they
were comfortable with and called 911. |

ASSIST TO GIRARD F.D. ON SEARCH
04/18/08-
LCFC was dispatched today to assist Girard F.D. with a search near Boro
Park Pond, off of Lake Street. U566 and R578 responded. A small Childs
bike and helmet were found near the pond area with no one in sight and
an alarmed passerby phoned 911. As crews arrived on scene Girard 558
came a crossed a mother and her child who were walking in a location
away from where the bike was. The bike was confirmed to be theirs. Crews
were placed in service and returned. A happy ending to a potentially
tragic incident. |

E563 RESPONDS TO FAIRVIEW ON NATURAL GAS
SMELL |

4/14/08- While crews were
out conducting weekly drill, LCFC was dispatched for one engine to
assist Fairview Fire Department with multiple odor investigations. E563
responded from the drill site. E563 was assigned to three addresses to
check the homes with the gas monitor. A strong odor of natural gas
was found, but no limits were exceeded. Most of Millcreek Fire
Departments and Fairview were out investigating their areas at one point
due to dozens of calls for the same reason. National Fuel Gas said the
strong odor was due to equipment failure, which over saturated the gas
with it's "scent" Mercaptain. |

manning Kuhl Hose fire station during the funeral service, LCFC was

Fire Department and Kuhl Hose Company both received their Voluntary
Rescue Service Recognition certificates. The Certification program is a
joint venture of the Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical
Services, the State Fire Commissioner and the Rescue Task Force of the
PA Emergency Health Services Council. Both department put fourth years
of effort to meet the equipment and training requirements.

FIRE SEASON BEGINS 04/03/08-
LCFC
assisted Girard F.D. with two brush fires this afternoon. The
first occurred around noon, in the area of Bob Ferrando Ford. A
small brush fire was found and put under control shortly after
crews began to work the fire line. The second came in around 5:00
this evening on Ridge road in Girard. Crews worked on the 2 acre
fire, which was stopped from becoming larger by a roadway, for
about an hour. Engine 572 and Utility 566 responded. LCFC reminds
residents to use caution and do not leave a fire unattended. |

OFF ROAD RESCUE TRAILER READY TO RESPOND

recently purchased a All Terrain Res-Q trailer to be used with the mule
as a patient transportation unit. The new Res-Q trailer is capable of
carrying one patient in a stokes basket and allows for one EMS attendant
to sit on the rear of the trailer and monitor the patient during
transport. The rugged design allows for use in most any situation which
our area could test it to. LCFC purchased a new dual axle trailer
for hauling the Mule and Res-Q trailer, set-up ready to respond at a
moments notice.

DAY MAKES FOR LOW TURN OUT
03/23/08- The
annual Easter egg hunt held at Lake Erie Community Park had a low turn
out this year. With snow on the ground and colder temps this kept some
families inside. For those who braved the elements, there was plenty of
candy to be rewarded for who found the prize eggs. LCFC colors about 200
dozen eggs each year for event. This is just one of the ways LCFC gives
back to the community. |

GETS HELP FINDING ITS WAY
03/20/08-LCFC received a
grant from Wal-Mart to purchase (3) vehicle mount GPS units and (3)
Handheld GPS units. U566, Sq 577 and R579 will each have a vehicle mount
unit. The others will be on the vehicles for use at an incident. These
units will allow for quicker response times to areas LCFC does not
respond to often and also make for more efficient rescues in wooded
areas and other off road applications. |

NIGHT TO RELAX AT THE ANNUAL LCFC BANQUET

held its annual banquet this evening at the Mckean Ushers Club. LCFC
members along with representatives from mutual aid companies, Lake City
Police Department, Lake City Boro, Girard, Township, Emergycare Operations
Dispatch center, West County paramedics, EMMCO West, Watson’s Auto body,
Erie Adult Probation, and Cycle City were in attendance. The night was
full of socializing and recognition to all who made the year of 2007 a
success for LCFC.

03/05/08- The overnight
ice storm left a mess across the area and kept Lake City crews out
throughout the overnight and today. LCFC was dispatched for multiple
trees and wires down on area streets. Power to much of the area was out
and is expected to continue to be out for much of the night. LCFC was
also dispatched to Elk Valley Elementary school for an investigation of
an explosion noise. Crews investigated and believe it may have been a
transformer outside the school. LCFC would like to take this time to
remind motorist, Do not drive over downed power lines! |

ROADWAYS LEAD TO 1 VEHICLE ACCIDENT

03/02/08-LCFC was
dispatched this afternoon for a MVA rollover on West Lake Rd. Upon arrival
of Squad 577, a single vehicle was found over embankment on its side with
occupant self extricated. According to witnesses, he was traveling
east on west lake road near north creek road when he lost control of his
vehicle on the icy roadway hitting guard rail and over turning the
vehicle multiple times before it came to rest over
embankment. Occupant had only minor injuries and was not transported
to hospital. Lake City SQ577 and U566 conducted traffic control until
vehicle was removed by local towing company. Pa state police
investigated crash. |

02/23/08- This
afternoon LCFC was dispatched to assist Springfield FD with the mule for a
rescue of a fall victim from a horse. LCFC was placed in service prior to
responding per command.

TO FATAL MVA WITH FIRE
02/16/08- Just after
crews returned from a long day of ice rescue training, LCFC was dispatched
for an MVA with entrapment and fire on Rt.5 west of Elk Creek Access.
SQ577, E562, E563 and U566 responded, along with Girard FD, Springfield
FD, and West County Paramedics. Units arrived on location to find one SUV
off the roadway. down an embankment and into a tree with fire.1 Patient
was self extricate from the vehicle. A second patient was still inside the
vehicle. Crews extinguished the flames and found the patient to be
deceased. 1 Patient was transported to the hospital. Rt.5 was closed for
over 6 hours while state police investigated the scene.

PURCHASES USED RESCUE TRUCK FOR WATER RESCUE TEAM |

02/15/08- After months of
discussion and planning the Lake City Fire Company has purchased a
used 1985 GMC E-ONE light rescue truck from Munhall FD. This new
addition to the company will provide more capabilities for water rescue
responses. The rescue box will provide a much needed area for storage of
PPE, the Rapid Deployment Craft, and other rescue equipment. The walk in
area will provide an area to carry a crew
and provide shelter from the elements. LCFC relied on carrying gear in
the bed of U566 and in R578, but now the gear will be organized and easily
accessible. The truck will also allow for a more efficient response by
being capable of towing either R578 or the Jet skis. The vehicle
will undergo some changes and detailing before going into service in
spring of 2008. |

MEMBERS ATTEND ICE RESCUE OPERATIONS COURSE
02/15/08 & 02/16/08-
LCFC and Edinboro FD hosted an Ice Rescue Operations course on
Edinboro Lake today. Members from both departments took part in the
course. Instructor Jeff Jobczynski taught rescuers methods of rescuing
someone who had fallen through the ice, rescuer to patient communication,
and working on safe and unsafe ice. LCFC now has a majority of it's
members trained to the ice rescue operations level and it's water rescue
team continues it's pride of being the most well trained resource in the region. |

RESPONDS TO 2 FIRE ALARMS
02/12/08- This evening LCFC was
dispatched to assist Girard FD on a residential fire alarm on Walnut St. in
Girard Boro. E563 and SQ577 responded. While enroute, command cancelled Lake
City. Crews were rerouted to a fire alarm at a commercial complex on Keystone
Dr. in Lake City. Upon arrival SQ577 was informed of a ruptured water line in
the facility which was causing the alarm. Crews were placed in service and
returned home.

SNOWMOBILE NEAR THE ROADWAY. CREWS EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE CAUSE IS OF
THE FIRE IS UNKNOWN. |

ON ITS SIDE INTO A POLE WITH WIRES DOWN. PATIENT WAS ALREADY OUT OF
VEHICLE. MIDDLE ROAD WAS CLOSED FOR ABOUT 6 HOURS DUE TO WIRES DOWN.
CREWS STAYED ON SCENE FOR TRAFFIC CONTROL. FAIRVIEW F.D. ASSISTED WITH 529
AND FIRE POLICE. |

DOWNSTREAM. PATIENT WAS PACKAGED

WEEKLY DRILL CREWS TOURED ONE OF THE LOCAL MANUFACTURING FACILITIES.
ALLEGHENY WOOD WORKS ON RAILROAD ST. CREW USE TOURS SUCH AS THIS ONE, TO
BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE LAYOUT, MANAGEMENT PERSONNEL, FIRE ALARM AND SPRINKLER
SYSTEMS, AND HAZARD WHICH MAY CAUSED ISSUES IN THE EVENT OF AN
EMERGENCY. THE INFORMATION IS ALSO USED FOR PREPLANS, WHICH TELL THINGS

LEADING THE WATER RESCUE PROGRAM, WHICH CONTINUES TO GROW AND BECOME
A REGIONAL RESOURCE. BRIAN WILL CONTINUE THE DUTY OF QUARTERMASTER
AND GEORGE WILL CONTINUE DUTIES AS FIRE POLICE CAPTAIN. ALL 2008 OFFICERS ARE PICTURED BELOW.

WERE DISPATCHED TO A RESIDENCE ON DUNN AVE IN LAKE CITY FOR A CHIMNEY FIRE.
E562, E563, SQ577, AND U566 RESPONDED. UNITS ARRIVED ON SCENE TO FIND
CHIMNEY FIRE HAD BEEN EXTINGUISHED. CREWS USED PPV FANS TO REMOVE SMOKE
FROM THE HOME. NO DAMAGE OR INJURIES WERE REPORTED. CREWS CLEARED THE
SCENE WITHIN AN HOUR.
