May 17-LCFC was dispatched
around 8:50pm for an outside fire with exposures at an
Elk Park Road residence. Engine 563, Engine 572 and
Utility 566 responded. Crews arrived and found a rubbish
fire behind a garage with extension beginning to the
garage. Girard FD was requested for one engine to the
scene. Crews pulled a handline and suppressed the fire.
Extension was limited to the soffit on the backside of
the garage. Foam was layered over burnt area to ensure
extinguishment. Crews cleared shortly before 10:00pm
BOAT RESPONDS ON BRUSH FIRE?...
May 17-LCFC was dispatched
around 1:30 pm for an outside fire in the area of the
Mouth of Elk Creek. Assistant Chief 561 responded and
assessed the scene. It was found that Rescue Boat 578
would be needed to access the fire. Utility 566 and Boat
578 responded to Elk Creek Access. Boat 578 was launched
with a potable pump and hose and responded in Elk Creek
towards the mouth. Boat 578 was beached and crews
accessed the fire. A portable pump was set up and
drafted water from the creek which fed a handline. Crews
suppressed the fire. Foam was used to ensure
extinguishment. Crews cleared the scene around 4:30pm.

ASSIST TO GIRARD ON GARAGE FIRE
May 8-LCFC was dispatched to
assist Girard FD on a Garage fire with exposures at a
South Creek Road residents around 10:00pm. Platea Tanker 595 and MPS
for a ALS Squad were dispatched to assist. Girard 541
arrived on scene with a fully involved garage and
extension to a vehicle and exposures to a house. LCFC
Engine 572 and Utility 566 responded. Units arrived on
scene and 2 handlines were pulled from Girard engine.
Crews extinguished the garage and vehicle and checked
for extension on the home. Negative extension was found.
Salvage was performed and fire confirmed extinguished.
Units cleared around 11:30pm.
WATER RESCUE TEAM REQUESTED BY GLADE
May 8-LCFC was dispatched
around 7:45am to assist Glade Fire Department in Warren
County with the Water Rescue Team. Glade had been
searching through the night on the Conewango Creek for a
missing person. As the Water Rescue Teams was preparing
to deploy from Lake City, the missing person was located
and Lake City was placed in service.

MEMBERS FINISH SPRINKLER COURSE
April 23-Members of LCFC
completed a Fire Suppression in Sprinklered Buildings
course this evening. The course taught sprinkler system
components, how they work and what happens when they
don't. The class also toured the Girard Bus Garage to
see a new sprinkler system installation. The final
portion of the course dealt with securing activated
sprinkler heads, needless to say everyone got soaked,
Thanks to Girard School District and to our instructor
Kip Hayford.
ROUTE 5 MVA
April 14-
LCFC, Springfield FD and West County Paramedics were
dispatched around 9:00am for a
2 car MVA with rollover on
West Lake Road near Towline Road. LCFC Squad 577
responded shortly after dispatch. Units from Springfield
and Squad 577 arrived to find two vehicles with heavy
damage. One class 3 patient and one class 5(DOA) were
found. Class 3 patient was assessed, packaged and loaded
into Squad 647 for transport. Crews remained on scene
during PA State Police investigation and coroners
arrival. Once scene was clear all units returned.
NEW BOAT ON ORDER
April 12-
Today LCFC placed the order for the Sealegs Amphibious
Marine Craft that was funded through FEMA Assistance to
Firefighters Grant Program. There is approximately a 90
day delivery time from order. Some of the boat features
include 115 HP E-Tec Evinrude outboard engine, All Wheel
Drive System, Extended Run Time System,
GPS/Chartplotter, Marine Radio and Emergency Lighting.
Once the unit arrives crews will undergo training
provided by Sealegs.
UNITS RESPOND TO CO ALARM
April 9-
LCFC was dispatched shortly before 9:00pm for a Carbon
Monoxide Alarm at a Mile Grove Avenue Residents. Engine
563 and Squad 577 responded within minutes of dispatch.
Units arrived and began monitoring as they entered the
home. A trace of Carbon Monoxide was found in the
basement of the home, National Fuel Gas was notified and
responded. Carbon Monoxide levels dropped to zero in the
home and LCFC units returned in service.
ANNUAL EASTER EGG HUNT
April 8-
Today LCFC held it's annual Easter Egg hunt at Lake Erie
Community Park. Dozens of kids searched for prize eggs
throughout the baseball field and Pavilion area. LCFC
colored hundreds of eggs for this event. Thanks to all
who came out.
CREWS RESPOND TO POSSIBLE DROWNING
April 4-
LCFC and West County Paramedics were dispatched shortly
before noon for a possible drowning in Elk Creek near
Uncle Johns Campground. Squad 577, Water Rescue 579 and
Utility 566 with the Mule responded. 577 arrived at an
access parking lot and crew made their way back to the
creek. Crews arrived to find patient out of the water.
Patient was assessed and found to be a class 5. Coroner
was notified. Crew stood by the scene with the Mule
until investigation was complete. All units cleared
around 2:00pm.

MEMBERS ATTEND WRER COURSE
March 25-
LCFC had two members complete the Water Rescue Emergency
Response course hosted by West Mead Fire Dept.
Firefighters Jennifer Waxham and Brian James completed
the two day course. The course focuses on swiftwater
rescue techniques including self rescue and swiftwater
crossings. Thank you West Mead and the instructors for a
great class.
LCFC ANNUAL BANQUET
March 24-This evening LCFC held it's annual banquet at Nick's
Place in Edinboro. LCFC members and guests enjoyed an
evening of great food and company as they reflected back
on the year of 2011. Firefighter Brian James received
his one year service pin and Lieutenant Juston Cannon
received his five year service pin. This years 100 Call
Club members include Chief Marvin Waxham Jr, Assistant
Chief Jeffrey Jobczynski, Deputy Chief of EMS Buffy
Jobczynski, Fire Police Captain George Reichert,
Lieutenant Juston Cannon, Firefighter Jennifer Waxham
and Firefighter Mark Horstman. Thanks to all who
attended the annual banquet.
VEHICLE FIRE WEST LAKE ROAD
March 20-LCFC was dispatched around
8:40 pm for a vehicle fire on West Lake Road near
Fairplain Road. Engine 563 and Engine 572 responded.
Units arrived to find one SUV fully involved. Crews
pulled a hand line from Engine 563 and extinguished the
fire. Once extinguished units remained on scene for
traffic control until a tow truck arrived. Units cleared
around 10:00pm
SEALEGS DEMO IN BOSTON
March 16-Today 3 members of LCFC
traveled to Boston to visit the North American
Headquarters for Sealegs and demo a boat. Chief Marvin
Waxham Jr, Assistant Chief Jeffrey Jobczynski and
Deputy Chief of Fire/Rescue Tom Hosack spend a few hours
on the waters and Islands of Boston Harbor testing the
boat on land and in the water, This was the next step
after LCFC received notification of the FEMA grant
award. A new rescue boat will be ordered soon.
UNITS RESPOND TO REPORTED BRUSH FIRE
March
13-
LCFC was dispatched around 2:30 this afternoon for a
large brush fire in the area of Nursery Road and Middle
Road. Engine 572 and Utility 566 responded shortly after
dispatch. Crews arrived in the area and began
investigating. Original caller was able to give an
address. Crews responded to the address and found an
area of grass that had been burnt off no fire was
present. Homeowner intentionally burnt off grass. All
units were placed in service and returned.
ONE VEHICLE MVA ON FAIRPLAIN RD
March 8-
LCFC, Fairview FD and West County Paramedics were
dispatched for a reported on car accident on Fairplain
Road near Middle Road shortly before 7am, Engine 563 and
Squad 577 responded. Crews arrived to find one
truck in a ditch. No injuries were reported and PA State
Police had scene under control. All units were placed in
service and returned.

POSSIBLE GAS LEAK IN TRAILER
Feb 27-
LCFC and West County Paramedics were dispatched around
6:00pm for a smell of gas in a home with possible
illness. Squad 577 and Engine 563 responded. Units
arrived and found all occupants out of the home.
Homeowner reported a smell of natural gas in the home.
Crews began monitoring the air and entered home. Nothing
was picked up on the monitor nor smell of gas in the
home. Occupants were assessed by EMS and refused
transport. National Fuel arrived on scene and LCFC
cleared.
CREW RESPOND TO POSSIBLE ELECTRICAL FIRE
Feb 25-
LCFC was dispatched around 9:00pm to assist Girard FD
with a possible electrical fire inside an apartment on
Main Street in Girard. Engine 563 and Engine 572
responded shortly after dispatch. Girard assistant chief
541 arrived and reported nothing showing. LCFC units
arrived on scene and assisted in the investigation.
Crews found a power outage in portions of the apartment
and occupants had reported a smell of burning
electrical. Girard Borough Electric Dept. was
notified and responded. Girard Ladder 549 was utilized
to access the roof and investigate. No source could be
found. Electric Dept. crews secured power to home and
all units were placed in service by command.
MEMBERS ATTEND ICE RESCUE COURSE
Feb 12-
LCFC sent 5 members of the Water Rescue Team to a two
day Ice Rescue Emergency Response Class held at West
Mead FD #1. The class was sponsored by the PA Region 2
Emergency Response Group and Crawford County SCUBA. The
class showed ice dangers and rescue techniques. Members
from Lake Shore FD, Glade FD, Monroeville FD, Jamestown
FD, Shippensville FD and Transfer FD also attended.

SNOWMOBILE ACCIDENT NEAR ELK PARK ROAD
Feb 12-
LCFC was dispatched shortly after 4:00am for a reported
snowmobile accident in the area of Elk Park and North
Creek Roads. West County Paramedics, Girard FD for their
Rescue and Springfield for an Engine and Squad were
dispatched to assist. Utility 566 and Squad 577
responded. WC Paramedic arrived on Elk Park and was
directed back a snowmobile trail to the patient. Medic
found one patient in traumatic arrest. Crews arrived on
scene and assisted with patient treatment, packaging and
transporting to Squad 577. One patient was transported
to Hamot Medical Center.

CHERRY STREET STRUCTURE FIRE
Feb 10-
LCFC was dispatched shortly after 2:00pm for a
multi-residential structure fire at the Cherry Street
Apartment. Girard, Springfield, Cranesville and West
County Paramedics were dispatched to assist. Engine 563
responded from Franklin Township FD and Engine 572
responded from Station 57 shortly after dispatch. Units
arrived on scene and found nothing visible from the
apartment building. Crews entered apartment and found
strong smell of electrical burning. After investigating
a fire was found inside the breaker box. Power was
secured and fire extinguished. Overhaul was completed
with no findings of extension. All units were released.
FEMA AFG AWARDEE NOTIFICATION
Feb 9-
LCFC received notification this evening that we have
been awarded funding for a new rescue boat through the
FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. LCFC has
been awarded $123,025. This grant program is highly
competitive. More details will follow as the purchase of

OUR CONDOLENCES TO FTVFD
Feb 2-
LCFC sends it sincere condolences and sympathy to the
Family, Friends and our Brothers and Sisters at Franklin
Township Volunteer Fire Department on the loss of Chief
David Flint. Chief Flint passed away after suffering
severe injuries in a motor vehicle accident this
evening. Assistant Chief Sharon Petri was also in the
vehicle during the accident and suffered severe injuries
and remains in the Hospital. Rest in peace Chief Flint.

CREWS FIND BUS FIRE NEAR STATION
Jan 28-
LCFC was alerted for a bus fire in the area of Station
56 around 5:40pm. Chief 560 arrived on scene and
reported a small fire near the engine. Crews arrived at
Station 56 and grabbed a fire extinguisher. Fire was
extinguished and batteries to the bus disconnected.
Damage was contained to an electrical box under the
hood. Crews cleared by 6:00pm.
RIP GIRARD FD MEMBER N.GIACOBELLO
Jan 28-
Today LCFC attended the funeral service for A.F. Dobler
Hose and Ladder Company Life Member Nick Giacobello.
Nick had over 26 years of service with Girard and also
served our country in the US Army during the Korean
Conflict. Our Condolences to the family, friends and our
brothers at A.F. Dobler Hose.
THE LOSS OF OUR BROTHER WALT SUMNER

One of our brothers has passed today. Walt Sumner was a
hero not only to the Cranesville community but to all
the areas of the county he responded to as RIT and the
hundreds he helped train as the torch for live structure
burn classes. When we were inside we knew you always had
our back. Continue to watch over us. Rest easy my
brother, we got it from here. To our brothers at Station
60 Stay strong, Walt will be with you on every call,
watching and guiding.
HIGH WINDS SEND CREWS ON MULTIPLE RUNS
Jan 17-LCFC was dispatched
for multiple calls beginning around 5:15 this evening
for trees and wires down due to the high winds. Utility
566 responded with a full crew throughout the district
cutting and clearing trees and debris from roadways.
Crews returned from the last run around 8:15.
WATER RESCUE TEAM GOES TO EDINBORO
Jan 11-LCFC was dispatched
around 11:30pm to stand by for a possible assist to
Edinboro FD with a flare sighting on Edinboro Lake.
Crawford County SCUBA team was also placed in stand by,
Crews responded to Station 57 and prepped for possible
assist. Edinboro Command ordered LCFC and Crawford
County SCUBA to respond non emergency to the scene. LCFC
Water Rescue 579, Boat 578, Utility 566 and Squad 577
responded with a crew of 8. Units arrived in Edinboro
and staged for further orders. LCFC and Crawford County
Scuba searched along the shoreline near the point the
flare had been sighted. Crews found nothing after
completing search. Command released all crews around
2:30am. The lake had approximately 3 inches of ice and
ice fisherman were present.
ONE CAR MVA ON N. CREEK ROAD
Jan 10-LCFC was dispatched
around 10:00am for a one car rollover accident on North
Creek Road. West County Paramedics were dispatched to
assist as well as Girard FD for a Rescue on stand by and
STAT Medevac for a helicopter on stand by. LCFC Engine
563 and Squad 577 responded. Units arrived and found one
vehicle on it's side with no entrapment. One patient was
assessed and packaged for transport. Girard and STAT
were placed in service. Squad 577 transported one
patient to the hospital. Crews remained on scene until
vehicle was removed by tow company. Units returned
shortly after 11:00am.
CREWS RESPOND TO FIRE ALARM
Jan 2-LCFC was dispatched
around 4:30 this morning to assist Girard FD on a
multi-residential fire alarm at Martins Landing. Engine
563 responded. Crews arrived on scene and met with
Girard's crew. A elevator smoke detector had activated.
Assistant Chief 541 ordered LCFC crew to investigate on
the 3rd floor. Crews found nothing upon surveying the
third floor and elevator shaft. After further
investigation the problem was found to be a trouble
alarm with the elevator smoke detector. Units were
placed in service and LCFC returned.

NEW MULE ARRIVES AT STATION
Dec 21-LCFC received a new
Kawasaki Mule this afternoon from Off Road Express. The
Mule is part of the Kawasaki Loaner Program, which loans
equipment like the Mule to organization to assist as a
area asset, LCFC has been part of the program for a few
years and the Mule has been utilized for dozens of
Rescues and emergency incidents. Thank you Off Road
Express and Kawasaki for your continuing support to Lake
City Fire Company and the entire region!
ENGINE GOES TO PHB FIRE
Dec 20-LCFC was dispatched
shortly after 6:00am to assist Fairview FD on a
commercial structure fire at PHB on Route 20. Lake
Shore, West Ridge and Cranesville were dispatched to
assist. Engine 563 responded. Crews arrived and found a
dust collector fire with smoke in the structure. Fire
was contained inside the dust collector and extinguished
with class D fire extinguishers. No extension into the
building was found. Crews cleared around 7:30am.
MEMBERS ATTEND STRUCTURAL BURN
Dec 18-Four
members from LCFC completed a structural Burn Session
held at Perry Hi-way. Robert Weber, Jeff Jobczynski,
Elizabeth Jobczynski and Tom Hosack attended the 16 hour
course. Session was held at an acquired structure on
Route 19. Thanks to all instructors and Perry Hi-way for
a great class.
CREWS RESPOND TO STRUCTURE FIRE
Dec 13-
LCFC was dispatched around 7:00pm for a residential
structure fire at a Hall Avenue residence. Girard,
Springfield, Cranesville Lake Shore and West County
Paramedics were dispatched to assist. LCFC Engine 563,
Engine 572, Squad 577 and Utility 566 responded shortly
after dispatch. Crews arrived on scene and found smoke
showing from the attic of the single story home. Crews
made entry and found fire in the attic space above the
garage and kitchen. Fire was contained to the attic and
extinguished, Overhaul was completed and crews were
released around 9:30pm.

ONE CAR MVA WITH ENTRAPMENT
Dec 4-
LCFC was dispatched around 3:45am for a one car vehicle
accident on Middle Road near Fairplain Road. West County
Paramedics were dispatched to assist. Squad 577 and
Engine 563 responded shortly after dispatch. LCFC 56 L1
arrived on scene and reported 1 vehicle into a tree with
entrapment and injuries. Girard FD Rescue 558 was
requested to assist. LCFC and Paramedics arrived on
scene and began patient care. 1 Patient was extricated
and packaged. Squad 577 transported one patient ALS
priority 1 to Hamot. crews remained on scene until
vehicle was cleared by tow truck. All units were cleared
by 5:15.

MULE ASSISTS TO KEARSARGE FD
Nov 13-
LCFC was dispatched to assist Kearsarge FD with the Mule
on a Brush Fire in the area of Treetop Drive shortly
around 7:30aUtility 566 with the Mule responded shortly
after dispatch. Crews had been working on scene for
approximately 2 hours prior to LCFC being requested.
LCFC arrived on scene and unloaded the Mule. The mule
and a crew of 3 responded back into the area of the
brush fire. LCFC assisted in overhaul and transporting
tools and equipment out of the fire scene. Over 14 Fire
Departments were involved in the incident. LCFC cleared
the scene around 10:00am.
EARLY MORNING 1 CAR MVA
Nov 12-
LCFC was dispatched around 4:00am for a vehicle accident
in the area of West Lake Road and Godfrey Road. West
County Paramedics were dispatched to assist. LCFC Squad
577 and Engine 563 responded. Units arrived on scene and
found 1 vehicle with moderate damage and entrapment.
Crews attended to patient and removed passenger side
door. Patient was removed from vehicle and loaded into
Squad 577 for transport. Squad 577 transported one
patient to the hospital. Engine 563 and PA State Police
remained on scene until vehicle was removed. All units
cleared around 5:00am.

ASSIST TO 54 OF BRUSH FIRE
Nov 6-
LCFC was dispatched to assist Station 64 on a structure
fire around 3:45am at a Geneva Marie Lane residence.
Cranesville was dispatched to assist with RIT. Engine
563, Engine 572 and Squad 577 responded. Girard Chief
540 arrived on scene and reported a large brush
fire in the woods with no exposure to home. Platea FD
Tanker and Brush Truck, Cranesville FD Brush Truck and
Fairview FD Brush Truck were added to the alarm. Crews
worked to contain and extinguish the fire. Fire was
under control around 5:00am. All units cleared the scene
around 6:00am.
