CREWS RESPOND TO LOCOMOTIVE FIRE
Aug 31-
LCFC was dispatched around 5:15am for a locomotive fire
on the CSX tracks near Nursery Road. Engine 572 and
Engine 563 responded. Crews arrived to find one
locomotive with fire showing in the engine compartment.
Engine 572 pulled along the railroad tracks to access burning
locomotive. Crew pulled a line from Engine 572 and began
fire suppression. Fire was extinguished in about 15
minutes. Fire heavily damaged engine compartment. No
fire damage was found inside the cab area.
Overhaul was conducted to ensure all hot spots were out.
Train traffic was stopped in the area during incident.
All LCFC units cleared around 7:00am.

ASSIST TO U.S. COAST GUARD ASHTABULA
Aug 30-
LCFC was requested to assist the U.S. Coast Guard
Ashtabula with a water search and rescue on Lake Erie in
the area of Conneaut Harbor around 9:45pm. A vessel
in distress taking on water was reported. Water
Rescue 579, Rescue Boat 578 and Squad 577 responded to
Elk Creek Access for launch of 578. Once at Elk Creek
Access. R578 was launched with 3 rescuers on board. R578
began a shoreline search from Elk Creek to Conneaut
Harbor. Lake Shore Boat 509 was requested to assist.
B509 responded to the area of Elk Creek and began a
westward 2-3 mile off shore search. With no findings, USCG Ashtabula suspended the search shortly before 11:00
and released all units. Rescue 578 returned to Elk Creek
Access and Boat 509 returned to Walnut Creek Access. All
units were in service around 11:40pm. West County
Paramedics also assisted.

MEMBERS COMPLETE FF SURVIVAL CLASS
Aug 29-
LCFC had two members complete the Firefighter Survival
Class offered by Kuhl Hose today. Assistant Chief Jeff
Jobczynski and Deputy Chief Elizabeth Jobczynski
completed the 16 hour class. The class teaches emergency
procedures to be used in last resort situations for
survival. Thank you to Kuhl Hose and the instructors for
a great class!

PERSONNEL ATTEND HOT DRILL
Aug 19-
Assistant Chief Jeff Jobcznyski and Deputy Chief
Elizabeth Jobczynski attended the Erie Airport Hot Drill
today. The drill allows crews to practice fire
suppression and rescue operations on a airplane
simulator. Crews from other local fire departments and
other airports also attended the drill. Thank you to
Erie Airport Fire Chief Rick Robie for this opportunity!

CREWS RESCUE 4 ON WATER RESCUE
Aug 16-
LCFC was dispatched to assist Springfield FD on a water
rescue on Lake Erie near Raccoon Park around 1:15am. Two
canoes with 4 persons, one flipped with two persons in
the water hanging on to the side of the upright canoe
and unable to paddle back to shore due to rip currents
was reported by dispatch. US Coast Guard Ashtabula, Lake
Shore Boat 509 and West County Paramedics were
dispatched to assist. LCFC Water Rescue 579 with Rescue
Boat 578 and Squad 577 responded to Summer City Boat Ramp for launch.
Lake conditions of 3-4 foot breaking surf was present at
time of launch. Rescue Boat 578 was launched and
responded to the incident scene. Two persons in the
water and two in upright canoe were brought aboard R578 and
transported back to shore. One
canoe was towed along side R578 and brought to the
beach. 2 victims experienced mild hypothermia but
refused transport. Lake Shore Boat 509 was placed in
service. US Coast Guard vessel also returned after all
persons and crew were accounted for. Once R578 was
retrieved all personnel cleared the scene.

ENGINE ASSISTS STATION 64

Aug 15-
LCFC was dispatched around 1:40 this afternoon to assist
Springfield FD with one engine on a structure fire at a
West Lake Road Residence. Girard, Cranesville, Platea
and West County Paramedics were also dispatched to
assist. Engine 572 responded shortly after dispatch.
Dispatch advised caller reported a fire in the wall.
LCFC and Springfield arrived on scene and found light
smoke in the home. Crews opened up walls and
investigated for the source of the smoke. Electrical
wiring in the wall had became damaged and caused the
surrounding wood to burn. Homeowner secured power prior
to crews arrival. No fire was present. Girard,
Cranesville, Platea and West County Paramedics were
placed in service. Springfield and LCFC crew removed
charred section of wall and ensured no extension. Once
investigation was complete all units were placed in
service and returned. |

HISTORY COLLECTION LUNCHEON
Aug 14-
This afternoon past and present LCFC members met at
Station 56 to begin gathering and recording the history
of the fire company. About 15 members took part in the
luncheon. Hundreds of pictures were shared and dozens of
stories told. The information gained today will begin
the documentation of the history of LCFC. We hope to
continue these luncheons in the future. Thank you to all
the members who came out to share information and
pictures! Check back soon for updates to the History
page.

CREWS RESPOND TO REPORTED STRUCTURE FIRE
Aug 12-
LCFC
was dispatched for a commercial structure fire around
6:15pm at the Cherry Street Apartments. Girard,
Cranesville, Lake Shore and West County Paramedics were
dispatched to assist. LCFC Engine 563 responded.
Assistant Chief 561 arrived on scene and reported
nothing showing. No fire was found and all units except for
Engine 563 were placed in service. After investigation
it is believed the washers belt caused the smoke. Engine
563 cleared the scene around 6:45pm. |

LCFC RESPONDS TO ROUTE 5 MVA
Aug 10-
LCFC
was dispatched this afternoon for a 2 vehicle accident
on Route 5 near Mason Farms. Engine 563 responded. Crews
arrived on scene and found 2 vehicles with minor damage.
4 patients were assessed and all refused treatment. Both
vehicles were drivable. West County Paramedics assisted
on scene. Once all vehicles left the scene, Engine 563
returned in service.

ASSIST TO STATION 64 ON MVA
Aug 8-
LCFC was dispatched to assist Springfield FD with Squad
577 on a MVA at Route 5 & 215. Squad 577 responded.
Units arrived on scene and found 2 vehicles with heavy
damage, 1 vehicle on the roadway and 1 on its side in a
ditch. LCFC crew assisted with assessing patients. 1
patient was transported by Springfield Squad to the
hospital and 5 patients refused treatment. LCFC was
released once patient care was completed.

UNITS ATTEND DAN RICE DAYS PARADE
Aug 7-
LCFC Engine 563 and 572, Water Rescue 579 with Jet Skis
5710, Squad 577 and the Mule attended the annual Dan
Rice Days Parade this morning. Hundreds of people lined
the streets of Rice Avenue and Main Street in Girard.
LCFC attends the parade each year to show support to the
Dan Rice Days event.

CREWS ASSIST TO USCG
Aug 1-
While
crews were returning from the mornings drill, LCFC was
requested to assist the US Coast Guard Station Ashtabula
with a vessel in distress on Lake Erie. LCFC Water
Rescue 579, Rescue Boat 578, Utility 566 and Jet Skis
5710 responded to Elk Creek Access for launch. 578 and
the Skis made their way out of Elk Creek to the Lake.
Once in the lake crews spotted a boat along the
shoreline being pulled down the beach by two people.
Units went to the boats location and questioned the
individuals. It was confirmed that this was the vessel
that had been reported in distress. The boat had became
disabled due to engine trouble and the individuals on
board were able to paddle the boat to shore. Crews
notified US Coast Guard that vessel was found and in no
danger. LCFC units accompanied the boat to the access
area then went in service. |

WATER RESCUE DRILL ON LAKE ERIE
Aug 1-
LCFC,
Lake Shore and members of the Millcreek Dive Team
conducted a water rescue/dive drill this morning on Lake
Erie. Crews met at Walnut Creek Access around 11:00 am
and launched LCFC Rescue Boat 578, Jet Skis 5710 and
Lake Shore Boat 509. Units transported divers to a
location near beach 1 off Presque Isle. Divers conducted
a dive on a ship wreck in the area. After dive drill was
complete units returned to Walnut Creek Access. Ongoing
drills like this help keep the teams skills sharp and
enhance the multiple agency response relationship. |

2010 LCFC CRUISE IN
July 31-
This afternoon LCFC held it's annual Cruise In and BBQ
Rib Dinner. Everything from classic Hot Rods to Custom
Mustangs filled the field behind Station 56. Thank you
to all who came down to support the Lake City Fire
Company!

FUEL SPILL SENDS CREWS TO ELK CREEK
July 30-
LCFC was dispatched
around 3:45pm for a fuel spill in Elk Creek near the Elk
Creek Access boat ramp. Water Rescue 579 and Rescue Boat
578 responded. Assistant Chief 561 arrived on scene and
reported a small amount of diesel fuel on the water.
R579 and the boat were ordered to launch at the mouth
and travel south up the creek to investigate further.
Crews found only a small amount of diesel fuel in the
water. The PA Fish and Boat Commission and PA Department
of Health also assessed the scene. It was deemed
unnecessary to contain and absorb the small amount of
diesel fuel. Rescue Boat 578 returned to the mouth and
all units were placed in service. The diesel fuel was
found to be from a truck that been parked near the boat
ramp. |

CREWS ASSIST EDINBORO ON HAZMAT SCENE
July 28-
LCFC was dispatched
to assist Edinboro FD around 9:15am on a Hazardous
Material Incident on Edinboro Lake. Utility 566, Water
Rescue 579, Rescue Boat 578 and Jet Skis 5710 responded.
Crews on scene reported an oil or paint based substance
coating an area of Edinboro Lake. Erie County Hazardous
Materials Team, Erie County EMA, PA Fish and Boat
Commission, PA Department of Environmental Protection
and Washington Township also responded. LCFC units
arrived on scene and Edinboro command Assistant Chief
390 ordered the crew to launch the Rapid Deployment
Craft and a Jet Ski. The RDC was loaded with absorbent
booms and then launched with a Jet Ski. Unit responded
to the area of contamination. The RDC crew laid the
booms out to help contain and absorb the material on the
water. Edinboro FD launched a boat with additional
booms. A sample of the material was taken for testing.
Crews continued to contain and absorb the material. Test
results came back and the material was found to be a
rare form of algae. The Jet Ski and RDC recovered the
booms and returned to the boat ramp. LCFC was released
from the scene around 12:45pm. |

CREWS GO TO MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT
July 28-
LCFC was dispatched
around 7:00am for a motorcycle accident on Elk Park Road
near the tracks. Engine 563, Squad 577 and West County
paramedics responded. Crews arrived on scene and found 1
patient with minor injuries. Patient was assessed and
packaged. Squad 577 transported patient BLS to the
hospital. Engine 563 and West County Paramedics cleared
the scene a short time later

MOTORCYCLE VERSUS TRUCK ON ROUTE 5
July 20-
LCFC was dispatched
around 8:30pm for a motor vehicle accident on Route 5
near the Elk Creek Access. Dispatch reported a
motorcycle versus car with injuries. West County
Paramedics were also dispatched to assist. Squad 577,
Engine 563 and Utility 566 responded. Units arrived on
scene and confirmed motorcycle versus truck with heavy
damage. Chief 560 assumed command. Two patients were
found. One class 1 and one DOA. Girard FD was requested
to assist with Squad 557, Rescue 558 and West County
Paramedics for an additional medic. Crews shut down
Route 5 from North Creek Road to Townline Road. Class 1
patient was assessed and packaged. Squad 577 transported
class 1 patient with two medics to Hamot. Patient
succumbed to injuries upon arrival at Hamot. Crews
remaining on scene assisted with traffic control and
clean up. PA State Police remained on scene for
investigation. |

CREWS RESPOND TO STRUCTURE FIRE
July 13-
LCFC was dispatched around 9:30pm for a reported
Structure Fire at Sanctuary Church on Maple Avenue.
Girard, Springfield, Cranesville and Lake Shore were
dispatched to assist. LCFC Engine 563 and Squad 577
responded. First arriving units found a strong smell of
smoke in the structure with no fire showing. Chief 560
assumed command. All incoming units were requested to
continue in priority 2. Units staged at Elk Valley
Elementary. Crews investigated the structure and found
the source to be from a fan motor on a condensing unit
that malfunctioned. Crews ventilated the structure by
opening doors and windows. All units cleared by 10:30pm.

CREWS RESPOND TO ROUTE 5 MVA
July 5-
LCFC was dispatched around 2:00pm for a two car MVA with
injuries on Route 5 and Richardson Drive. Squad 577,
Utility 566 and West County Paramedics responded. Units
arrived on scene to find two vehicles with moderate
damage and no entrapment. Patients were assessed and
packaged. An additional squad from West County was
requested. Squad 577 and two West County Squads
each transported a patient. Utility 566 crew remained on
scene for traffic control and debris clean up. Once tow
truck arrived scene Utility 566 returned and PSP
remained on scene.

MULE TRANSFER ASSIGNMENT TO STATION 28
July 3-
LCFC was requested for the mule to assist at Lawrence
Park during their fourth of July celebration for EMS
standby. Utility 566, the mule and a crew of 2 headed to
Lawrence Park around 4:30pm. Once in Lawrence Park the
mule and rescue trailer were unloaded and Station 28
command requested the crew to stand by at various
locations and assist if needed. LCFC crew responded to 2
incidents while at event. Crews cleared Lawrence Park
around 11:00pm

WATER RESCUE ON LAKE ERIE
June 25-
LCFC, Lake Shore FD, West County Paramedics and US Coast
Guard Erie were dispatched this morning around 11:00am
for a water rescue on Lake Erie off of Elk Creek. Water
Rescue 579 and Rescue Boat 578 responded to Elk Creek
Access. While responding crews were notified that the
location was just west of Walnut Creek Access and not
off of Elk Creek. A vessel taking on water and sinking
with 4 occupants on board was reported. A nearby good
samaritan picked up the 3 of the occupants from the
sinking vessel. Boat 509 arrived on scene and picked up
the remaining individual in the water. LCFC returned to
station and stood by in case an additional squad was
needed. Lake Shore Boat 509 met up with good samaritans
vessel and transferred the remaining occupants onto
their Boat. US Coast Guard arrived on location with now
sunken vessel for investigation. Boat 509 transported
occupants to Walnut Creek Access for medical evaluation.
LCFC was placed in service.

ONE ENGINE ASSISTS GIRARD
June 20-
LCFC and West County Paramedics were dispatched to
assist Girard FD on a residential electrical fire around
4:15pm at a Elk Park Road home. Engine 572 responded.
Dispatch advised caller reported fire to possibly be
out. Girard Chief 540 arrived on scene and had all units
continue in priority 2. Engine 572 arrived on scene and
stood by. After Girard crew investigated with thermal
imaging camera fire was confirmed out with no extension.
All units were placed in service.

ANNUAL CARNIVAL COMES TO AN END
June 19-
The
86th Lake City Fire Company Carnival has come to an end.
Thank you to those who came out and supported our event.
Also thank you to the vendors, parade participants and
volunteers who gave their time for the carnival. Below

RIT ASSIST TO LAKE SHORE
June 19-
LCFC was dispatched to assist Lake Shore FD with the
Rapid Interventions Team around 1230am for a reported
residential structure fire on Bogey Way. Engine 563
responded quickly with a full crew. First arriving units
reported nothing showing. While enroute E563 was advised
to respond priority 2. Crews on scene reported a smell
of smoke in the structure. After investigating it was
found to be coming from an outside source. Engine 563
was placed in service as it arrived on scene. Fairview
FD and West County Paramedics also assisted. Source was
a neighbors burn barrel.

CREWS RESPOND TO VEHICLE FIRE
June 13-
LCFC was dispatched shortly before 11am for a vehicle
fire on West Park Drive. Engine 572 responded.
Dispatch advised the responding crew that the fire was
possibly out. Engine 572 arrived on scene with
Pennsylvania State Police and found one vehicle with no
fire showing. Fire was extinguished prior to crews
arrival and damage was contained to the dash area. Crews
disconnected the battery and investigated to ensure no
extension. After nothing further was found, crews
cleared the scene. |

SEVERE STORM BRINGS DOWN TREES
June 6-
LCFC began the morning around 3:00am with a dispatch for
a tree down blocking roadway on Route 5 near North Creek
Road. Squad 577 and Utility 566 responded. Crews found
multiple trees down all along route 5. Crews began to
work to clear roadway. A nearby neighbor helped by
utilizing a front loader. Some trees were so large and
heavy the loader could not move them. Springfield
Township was notified that heavy equipment was needed to
remove trees along route 5 west of Townline Road. The
morning continued with trees blocking the roadway in the
area of Martin Avenue and Arneman Lane around 6:30am.
After clearing roadway crews finally returned in
service. This storm also caused 1 death in Springfield
Township at Virginias Campground where a camper was
rolled over onto a man by the wind.
Update 6/7:
The National Weather
Service has confirmed that storm damage over the weekend
was caused by a tornado. Starting as a EF0 with wind
speeds exceeding 65 MPH and ending as an EF1 with wind
speeds between 86 and 110 MPH. The tornado touched down
intermittently for about 5 miles from Springfield thru
Lake City and to Girard.

MULE GOES TO EDINBORO FOR TRIATHLON
June 5-
LCFC assisted Edinboro FD with the Mule this morning for
the annual Edinboro Triathlon. The Mule and ResQ Trailer
stood by to assist if a medical emergency occurred
during the race. The race consisted of a running and
biking event. The swimming portion of the event was
cancelled due to poor Edinboro Lake Conditions. Edinboro
FD Squad transported one participant with heat
exhaustion. No other injuries were reported.

NEW JET SKIS ARE IN SERVICE
June 4-
The new 2010 Kawasaki
Jet Skis, courtesy of Cycle City of Erie are now
lettered and in service. Once again the generosity of
Kawasaki and Cycle City will greatly increase the Lake
City Fire Company’s Water Rescue Teams ability to serve
the region with rapid response and search capacity.
